Hey there everyone!
I'm considering an Athlon based laptop or desktop. They seem to be a lot less $$$ than Pentium 4's.
How well do they work for Sequencing (like Cubase) or running soft synths like B-4 or Pro 53, live (on a laptop)?
Thanks...

I have recently gotten a dual 2.6 gig Athelon machine, a RackSaver DAW-64. It has alot of memory a 250g SATA RAID5 array. It SCREAMS. I'm just beginning to develop hi-def WMA 9 demos with surround audio, and also to run ProTools (for our own development) as well as Nuendo 2.0 (also for our development).

I'll get in our new G5 when I get back to the US, and compare them. But I expect that the PC is somewhat faster.

The Athlons rock. In fact, for music, they asre recommended by alot of folks over the pentiums. You geta higher plug-in count.

Right now i am mixing a song at home. 48 tracks, 4 stereo busses. Eq's and compresoors on most tracks, busses and a couple of reverbs. the disk meter doesn't even move, and the CPU meter is almost at 50%.

I'm going to check out what happens when I use a much higher end plug-in. I' want tosee if there is a demo for the new waves IR reverb. I'll let you know what happens.

Dear, George...

'PC and Nuendo for Our own development' means that are working on VST format of your Plug-ins???

It'll be so great

How about UAD-1 or Powercore version of your plug-ins?

Regards...

T..

I have a much beloved Athlon 2.6 as well. I'm also following in the 64 bit Athlon, and I seem to recall there is a dual mobo for them. Though the applications themselves are not yet optimised for 64 bit, and Windows won't have a 64bit OS till next year, comparrisons so far show it beating the competition anyway. I don't think it will be long until native systems become very comparable if not better than farmed ones.

First off, I always take reports from biased sources, PC or MAC, with a grain of salt.

Furthermore, Predicts? He's talking about a chip not yet available.
And I'm sure these will come in at a hefty pricetag.

Sorry guys, that's two huge clams in the same darn week.

I've got Opteron processors in my DAW64, not Athlon processors...

...about DAW64™ workstations with Opteron™ processors...

G5 should be around next week...

George, let us know what kind of plug-in count you get from a Dual Opteron System.

Also, check out a progarm called FXTeleport. It allows you to use a separate computer via Lan to run just plug-ins on.

Do you find that your plugins need rubbing on a regular basis? \:D

Hi George -whats the score with you're machine please. really interested in your plugin counts etc especially at higher sample rates.

People seem to be rave about thier daws at 44k etc but never at 96k. I'm hopin the opteron will be an answer to my 'stable powerful DAW at 96k' prayers.

Haven't had a chance to test Nuendo on the dual 2.6 Opteron yet. I've been mixing, and also have a things-to-do queue that backed up from here to Tonipah.

Soon, I hope...
