Anyone heard of these? More importantly, if so have you used them? What did you think?

Nice guy. Talked to him last week. Said he's got some mics in service at Engine Studios in Chicago and at a studio in Virginia where he's from.
The price on these mics is excellent and the build quality really looks good. Just seems like TOO good of a bargain. Hopefully someone around here will know something abouth them.

You can't help but wonder....a mic for under $1000 that rivals an original @ $20,000 and the best copy so far, the Soundelux that goes for $8000 or so. If it was as good as those, why not charge at least $2500 and it still be a good deal?

I've been in touch with John Peluso. Great guy who's done a lot of design work for other companies - including capsule manufacturing. Also lots of repair and restoration work. He's the real deal and striking out on his own.
I'll be reviewing his Peluso mics soon. - the 22 47 and the 22 251.
The Peluso mics are all handbuilt in the US.
He also has a line of mics under the brand Soundking , which are manufactured in China and then are tweaked and re-diaphragmed by Peluso in the US. The 25MM instrument microphone looks really interesting - with multiple capsules.
All mics are warranteed for 3 years.
Lookin' good.

The final cost after the intro period. will be somewhat higher but not out of sight. I have spent many years streamlining the manufacturing process to be able to make a great microphone at a price that a studio can make money with, super large margins are not my way. I believe in fair price related to the cost of manufacturing. John Peluso

Hi all,
well, I've decided to get a 22 251...with John Peluso's reputation and expertise AND business ethics I think I am going to have a happy new year indeed ! I always dreamed of having a "251" and this is looking sooo good.... Thanks, John...and everyone here for all the wealth of info and goodwill I hope will prevail in 2004.

It'd be great to get an idea of how long I might have to scape up the $$$ before the price jumps.

So what mic manufacturers has Peluso worked for?
These are very interesting, but for some reason they evoke some of the chinese mics, on my gut instinct. I don't mean that as a diss, but there is very little info on the site. I would be curious to hear a little more about the specs of these mics- what kind of capsules are being used, where are they being sourced from, what transformers are being used, what is the tube, etc...

The tube in the 22 251 is a 6072 which I have been selling for the past 6 years as a replacement tube for AKG mikes. The tube in the 22 47 is a nos Telefunken which is very similar in every important spec. to the AC701. We temper them and coat then with a conductive carbon based coating, test them for noise and re label them CE701 Capsules are made by Peluso Microphone Lab. We buy the metal work from China and then the sputtering and diaphragm work is done at our lab in the U.S. These are very nice capsules, with great frequency and transient response. These are of the finest quality, and with the costly machine shop work done in China, we can make them at a fraction of the cost of a comparable German capsule. The microphone bodies are custom made for us in China, all circuit boards are made in the USA by a large board maker, large value resistors are mostly from Germany and Taiwan, critical low value resistors are Vishay, Caps are Phillips, AVX & Xicon, The transformer is custom made for us to our spec. The pricing will stay where it is through January of 2004.

A slight side question; especially since we have a mic-maker in attendance;
Why haven't Soundelux, Lawson, yourself, nor anyone else (so far as I know) made a version of the C12? That's something I've been on the lookout for (as well as a small-diaphragm tube, which Brauner had been rumoured to be making) . . .

A C-12 clone is planed for sometime in late 2004 or early 2005. "Telefunken makes the ELAM-C12 which is a wonderful mike and very true to the original"

Hey John, could you tell us more about the sound of your microphones? What was your process of adjusting and comparing your mics to the originals? And in you opinion, how do your mics stand up to the originals?
Thanks, Shawn
Also, how long is the intro price going to last?

I have to second this request. I've fallen in love with the new Telefunken ELAM 251 and can in no way afford it. But your mic looks like a fantastic deal.

The PELUSO mikes are styled after the classics the 22 251 has a copy of the CK12 capsule which holds its own against the original. It uses similar shape and size head chamber with the only change made for mechanical durability the sound is similar to an original but to qualify almost no two originals sound the same. The 22 47 has a 34 mm capsule styled after the original with great low end response and balanced mids and highs. this capsule is also being sold by us to other mike makers for there 47 clones because it sounds like the original. the circuitry in the 22 47 is updated with a tube which is much quieter than the original. to sum up both mikes have a vintage sound with out the over emphasized highs that so many new mikes have. they have been described by users an rich and silky

Hi,
well i'm still waiting for the euro power supply refit 251 piece. John's been kind enough to do a bit of remodeling...
Patience, now.

I just ordered the 22 251...
The first batch (of 50?) sold out and I've been anxiously waiting for the second run...
A couple of clients' projects are entering the final vocal tracking phase,
So I'm going to have good opportunities to put that mic to use...
I'll report back...
Not-so-secretly hoping for brilliant results,
