Hi guys, Here's what I want to do. I want the whole band to play through my Mackie 1402 vlz so I can have a headphone rehearsal for everyone, However my drummer needs to hear a click track coming from the left output of a minidisc player along with the entire mix. The problem is, How does the band here the mix minus the click? What do I have to do with the drummers channel?
Keep in mind that we do have a headphone amp for use too.

O.K. - here's the super cheap answer. I was recording a band recently with the same requirement (click only in drummers ear.) The drummer had the click on a small metronome/drum machine, connected to a single in ear headphone. he had that on one ear, and the cans on top of that. He was able to hear both the click and the music very well. Most important though, he was able to control the click himself - level and tempo (less fo me to do.)

If the drummer can have his own mix, it's easy. Feed the click as another element to the mix, and only route it to him.

If your headphone amp has an effects in, you might be able to do the same thing.

You might want to explore the Mute/ALT 3/4 option. You can "mute" the minidisk channel which routes it to the ALT 3/4 outputs and feed those to the drummer. For more info check the manual.

Musician's Friend sells dummer headphones with a built in metronone and added isolation for $99.

Just a thought

the guy is a drummer. why doesn't he just keep better time and play with the band?

i'm not trying to be flippant, but i'm serious... why would a decent drummer need to rely on a click track?

am i missing something?

The answer is yes, if he has other musicians who aren't steady pulling him about or if there are pauses in the band which must be in tempo for an overdub to cover.
