What is a good digiatl router for routing about 16 AES/EBU channels?

The Z-Systems Detangler Line?

the Freindchhip DMX 16?
http://www.friend-chip.de/dmx16.htm

Any other?
It should be 96 kHz capable, asynchronous mode and easy to use - directly on the front and/or via a Mac.

Any of those would fit your needs.
You could also use a Cat 5 ethernet patchbay. Maybe not as fancy but a lot cheaper.

Shouldn't be too difficult or expensive , you will need a few tools, cables, a panel, conectors.

Try to do a search, Roger Nichols has described his Cat 5 digital patchbay in this forum (a few years back).
