Hi there!

I'm recording a choir, and my old DAT's broken down (Aiwa hd-s200). Thinking of changing recording medium my eyes fell on a Korg D16 harddisk recorder.

The choir is almost always acapella and I use 2 condenser mics, ie. only need 2 channels. I do my mixing on a computer and burn my CD's from there. Thus I'm in no need for fancy mixing functions on the redording unit. (Might be good to have a compressor on it though, right?)

I'd like som input regarding the D16 in general? Has anyone used it? Is it a good machine? Sound quality? Is it ok for recording choir? Can the onboard compressor be used for choir, or is it intended for drums'n stuff?

Are there better ways to record a choir than using a harddisk recorder? What would be your recording equipment choice with a budget of $800? (The D16 is a bit cheaper than that. Already have good mics.) Used or new equipment?

Loads of thanks in advance for any kind of reply on this.
/Daniel

I am not familiar with the Korg, therefore I can't comment on its qualifications for your particular application...I can, however, suggest an alternative that fits nicely into your budget (as in $299 USD)...

Adobe Audition (Formerly Cool Edit Pro)...It is an excellent computer recording program for multi-tracking and editing...It comes complete with tons of plugins (EQ, Compression/Limiting, Delays, Verbs, Special FX, etc.,) that perform extremely...

There is a "demo" download of the program on the left side of the page. You should check it out. It's a very versatile recording program.

Good Luck!
