I've read about bugs and problems early in it's release. Is it a stable platform now?
How are the converters in the analog card? Comparable to apogee or similar outboard converters? I'm considering picking one up - any help appreciated!!!

A friend has one, and recently we A/B'd it to our Mackie HDR (which uses the same converters as the MDR) and we both abreed the Mackie smoked both for quality and ease of use.

I used it for over a month. Perfectly stable. Nothing I'd buy, though.

Also looking at the HDR, fostex, and ADAT standalone 24 trackers....of course I'd go with the RADAR if $$$ allowed, but not quite...since, I'm going two tracks at a time with outboard conversion, mostly is the DA converters back into the console that I'm concerned about.

Agreed, if I had the $10k, we'd have gone Radar, but since we didn't, we spent 1/2 that and got the Mackie HDR Pro.

I wouldnīt make my decision just regarding the sound with those machines.
First Iīd look at the different approaches of the HD recorder, connectivity, how does it fit to my needs.
Very important: relyability!
Sound: If I donīt like the sound of the AD/DA converter I would take outboard converter. Thatīs why I say, I wouldnīt decide on the sound of the internal converters.
More important for sound is. Are there all digital I/O standards possible (AES/EBU, TDIF, MADI, ADAT, ...)? Especially the professional AES/EBU option would be important to me, because then I can connect every pro converter I like - and choose every sound/quality/colour ... I like.
Back to the first question: The MX-2424 is very versatile but what about the afformentioned bugs? Is the latest version easier to use, less tricky and reliable?

I agree if funds were not an issue, but they are for most. If I'm going to get a MX2424 and use outboard converters, the total would be up in the range of the RADAR, so I might as well get that..
I think sound is the overall factor in deciding what to get, and for a certain price point the internal converters are very important....

I've been very happy with my MX2424s and have no regrets. I've travelled a great deal with them and they've performed fine.
The ease of setting up files for transfer to Pro Tools, Nuendo, Logic and others makes the Open TL format a no brainer for me.
