Just curious as to how many of you actually use the smart tool in pro tools?

I have been trying to use it but I find it easier to switch between modes instead.

How bout all of you?

It's all I've ever used.

Use it all the time. My center mouse wheel (yes, Windows PT user) is programmed to switch between the tools, but I find the smart tool the most useful the majority of the time. The trick is where you have it relative to the waveform - above or below zero crossing, near the end above or below, etc...

I have used Pro Tools for over a decade. When they first implemented the "smart tool" it was a little buggy and I had a hard time with it. However, I now use it all the time and it's much faster than manually switching between the tools in most cases.

Spend some time with it. You may end up liking it.

Much to the chagrin of my fellow Protools operators, I too use it exclusively.

I'll stick my neck out and say that I don't use it. Ever. I've messed around with it, and it just isn't how I like to work. Everybody has their own ways of navigating around the screen, editing and whatnot. I prefer to use the function keys to switch between tools as well as modes and other things. I've gotten pretty quick at it and I've gotten to where I can almost do a whole session without looking at the keyboard, so I doesn't make sense for me to start using different ways of working if it's just gonna slow me down.

I'm another user of the smart tool. It just makes it faster for me. But like the previous poster said, it isn't for everybody. I've also been using my Control 24 a lot as well and sessions have been easier and faster with that.

I find I'm just as fast with the Function keys as I am with the Smart Tool. I try to use the smart tool exclusively but I seem to switch back to the function keys. No big deal, it doesnt make any difference to the session, it's just a comfort issue.
