I have M-audio's BX8's. When I play, I get a certain tone and coloration to my mix--which is fine.
Then I record my keys via delta1010 into Sonar. I use the encoder that cakewalk provided in sonar to create an MP3 file of my mix.
The result---a totally diff sound!!!! Now I know everyone will say--all monitors sound diff and all that!! I am not changing a single thing in Sonar, yet this is night and day apart!!
Highs are all gone, bass is BOOMING!!!--none of this I was hearing when I was just play the same sounds on the keys and listen direct on the monitors! and ofcourse if i listen to it on other stereo systems--the diff is even greater!
So maybe the mp3 encoder is doing this?
What do you all use? Do you even convert to mp3? or leave it as a .wav file?
Upon further testing I did at home ---here is what I found out. Recorded a simple 4/4 beat for 1 measure. Exported it as a .wav file from sonar. Exported it as a 128 bit mp3. Exported it as a 320 bit mp3.
Played back all 3 files and the original recorded file back on my monitors. Small differences--which exist because of mp3 and wav etc. No biggie. Mostly 95% close to the original sound.
Now I listen to all of the files on my computer(altec lansing speakers--average stuff) and I see huge differences in sound. Highs are gone, bass is booming.
Then I burn the files on a CD and listen to it no my home stereo--same thing. In the car--same thing....highs gone--bass booming.
If my monitors are supposed to be "true sound" then how come all other systems where i played it ---it sounded fairly similar---but the result on all speakers was totally different from my mix heard on the monitors?
