A friend, PT owner, told me that native plugs have less quality than TDM version of the same model because designers have to work with a non-dedicated CPU and they must to make some compromises in order to design native plugs. Is this true?
Can anyone hear the differences between TDM and native plug of the same model and SWhouse (for ex. renaissence)?

UAD told me that they are the same with their plugins for PC and Pro tools.

UAD plugins aren't native. And they are not quite the same because TDM cards are 64 bit fixed point internally and most native plugins are 32 bit float and the UAD plugins are 64 bit float on the UAD card, but fixed point on TDM.I guess you could argue that having a dedicated DSP chip will allow you to write a better plugin in terms of avalible power, and a couple of plugins exemplify this, but overall your not really going to hear that much difference between Waves native,or Waves TDM for example.A 64 bit fixed point plugins allow for more presicion but clips at 0db,while 32 bit float plugins can be pushed a lot harder and won't clip past 0db.

Right, and the problem of dsp cards is that their CPU RAM is limited, instead the host CPU can handle a super fat huge plugin, because there are no RAM limits

There are also other underlying issues to the idea of floating bit handling and these cards. As it has recently been brought to my attention, the UAD and Powercore cards ARE using complicated schemes to pass the signal back and forth to the host, it has been argued that dithering schemes and other processes are indeed reducing the signal in some cases to 24-bit signal back to the 32 floating bit host. There seems to be more to it than simply stating a bit depth is being used internally. Many TDM plug-in operate at higher rates (double precision math) but still have to deal with the 24-bit TDM buss and chip bridging.

My opinion about the reverbs would echoe those stated, software convolution or harware for the best quality. The Quantec Yardstick is an often overlooked hardware option in the ~$2K range.

My experience is that native, only host CPU applications give a noticeable better sound than any DSP hardware solution.
