Hey again!

So I've been trying to find some information on Spectrum Analyzers. I'm using the one with Cubase SX. I'd like to learn how to use one of these for better mixing (that's what they are for, right?), but I can't seem to find any info on how to use one. Anybody care to enlighten me or at least point me in the right direction?

Many thanks!

I'd like to thank everyone for their posts, but I'm trying to find some info on how to use an Analyzer in general. How do you use one to achieve a better mix?

There are many uses; here are a few.

If you hear some nasty frequency, you can find it sometimes in the SA, then notch it out with a parametric EQ.

Another use is to analyze stuff (an well recorded instrument or entire mix) you like, then analyze stuff you're doing, then note the differences. Then make adjustments, but keep listening; fully matching spectrum curves usually sounds bad because of inherent differences in the material.

Yeah. For the first couple of months with 'foo I just put everything on I liked and analyzed it. I could see where the frequencies were. Where the kick was, bass, guitars, vocals, cymbals. Plus you can see from the engery they generate where they fit in the mix. Foo has so many tool, I can begin to pretend I understand them all. But those two things. PLus if my mix just seems wacky this is a great tool that has helped me figure out why.
