Well the DVD audio players are staring to come out more these days, and pre recorded DVD Audio being at 192 will be a norm. Logically it appears to be that recording industry will be recording music at 192 and it will be a standard in the next two years or so. Does everyone else see this happening, or do you think the 96 will still be around for a while? I know at this point, there are no digital mixers from Yamaha that go to 192 yet, but I am sure that will be changing in the near future.

There is considerable debate about this. Just because Pro Tools is 192 khz now, everyone must scramble. But in reality, few mastering engineers are receiving projects at that sample rate. And the very best companies aren't making multichannel 192 converters yet. We'll see.

I doubt that...at 192 DVD Audio only supports two channels of audio. Since the all-important consumer can't perceive the difference between MP3 and CD audio, but certainly can tell the difference between two and five speakers (although they don't know where to place them), I think there will be more demand from the consumer standpoint for multichannel 96K audio than there will be for stereo 192.

DAD: Digital Audio Disc

Classic Records still sells these: Classic homepage

I am still planning on buying Alan Parson's I, Robot on this format--it has received great reviews.

And now 96/24 (and 192/24) in the car: 2004 Acura TL 5.1 dvd-audio system review

These people sell 96/24 (and some 192/24 now) stereo-only dvd-audio's. And the 96/24 side is playable on all dvd-VIDEO players just like DAD's are: Hi-Res Music

The SACD has more future than the DAD. I heard the Acura thing, sounded good, but I wasn't impressed. Don't expect to hear HipHop any loud on that thing.

Didn't sony came out with a surround system for the car that plays DVD-V and SACD?
