Hi, I'm no professional in the field of music I play around with and try to fix crappy sounding Mp3's WAV's and Wma files. I'm using Cool Edit Pro 2.1 on my 1.3 Gb AMD Athlon 512MB RAM PC. with a Sound Blaster Live card (I know it's crap don't laugh)What I would like to know is what steps I should go through when I'm re-mixing or re-mastering music that needs some tuning. For example a lot of times I find there is crackle and his in these recordings and I use WAVES Platinum DSP to clean up these files then I try to determin if the recording has too much base, or the vocals are set with too much highs or whatever doesn't sound right. then run it through hard limiting to make sure there is no clipping and finally I run it though WAVES L2 Ultramaximizer to give it some punch without distorting. Iam I going about this in the right way or is there any steps or order of steps I should add or change. I have noticed my end product is great sounding at times and other times it comes out worse than when I started. Would you give me some advivce?

Thanks. No1UNo unono1@cox.net
