An opinion?

Not a terrible choice, but there is a lot better. Certainly if you could move up to something like a Hafler amp you will notice a big difference.

However, if you have no choice, work can certainly be accomplished using this setup. My only concern is that the Alesis might be a tad under-powered for the JBLs if you start pushing the system.

The JBL 4412A's were the best sounding monitors I heard while shopping for monitors. They were out of my price range at $1,200 but they sounded great to me. I eventially settled on a similar designed cabinet with 12" speakers by Yamaha, they're Home Theater Speakers and were much cheaper. I also have a switchable circuit that runs them with my NS-10's, so I can run the NS-10's by themselves or kick in the Yamaha Theaters's for added punch in the low and high ends. The wattage and frequency ratings on the Yamaha's and JBL's are also very similar.

I'm running a Alesis RA-100 for an amp, which has about 75 watts per channel. The RA-100 puts out a nice flat signal, and has plenty of power to run my speakers at a high volume for my home studio, and is dead quiet with no signal. No hums or buzzes. In a larger pro studio, I would want more wattage, but for my small home studio, it works out well.

I recently also added a couple of home stereo amps, speakers and a sub-woofer, to run 5.1 surround sound, and all together it sounds great.
