I have been toying with the idea of converting over to a Mac for a while (so I can keep using Logic mainly) and have recently heard about problems with OSX and the older MOTU card being incompatible- freeze-ups being a big complaint and no updated drivers for the 324 card. Any one have similar experiences? I use a Spirit 328 board that is interfaced with the MOTU to get in and out of my system and I'd like to keep using it.
Thanks!

FWIW, I have a 324-based system I use to get into DP 4.1 under OSX 10.2.8 (just updated). Since 10.2.3, I have had none of the problems people speak of. There were some updates to the 324 drivers from MOTU, and they seem to work fine now.
Next upgrade, I'm going to have to give some serious thought to whether to go the PCI or FireWire route, though.

You should look into the 424 PCI card...
It's a rock solid system under OSX and it's completely expandable ...

I personally will never have the patience to learn Logic (or any MIDI stuff for that matter). Mac OS X is great though. I mean, my life got much better when I switched from OS9 to OSX. It's like a direct interface to your brain in some ways, very cool.
The audio support for OSX has gotten pretty good in the last 6 months or so. I would say unless you're on food stamps, get the newest MOTU card and a nice, mostly friendly G4 or G5.
The lowest end G5 does not have the faster PCI slots, and the frontside bus is slower, etc... I would go for at least the mid level model. I heard Jobs said they're gonna have 3 ghz G5's by next summer. Crazy.
The funny thing is, I'm switching over to PC for most of my high resolution audio needs. I want to author DVD-Audio discs, which is way too expensive on a Mac.

Hey Stephen, Did you update before they pulled the update or is it back up? (I'll check) So everything seems okay with your system under 10.2.8?

Thanks for the responses- if the drivers are happening now, then I guess that solves that issue- I'm sure the 424 card is cool- can I continue to use my 2408 with that card, though...?

jdunn,
while the G5's are really cool, do realize that you're getting into new territory. The mid-level and top line G5's have PCI-X slots, which accept only 3.3V cards, and will not work with 5V cards.
Also, you only get 3 slots, not 4 like in the latest G4 tower incarnations.

MOTU is now offering an upgrade to the 424 card from the 324 to registered 324 owners. This was initially to make the cards compatible with the new G5's, but it weems as though they've extended the offer to us lowly 324 peeps.
