Hi there! Could use some tips! Thanks for any advice!

I have an external Preamp (RNP by FMR audio), and may get an external compressor...perhaps a Presonus. How do you connect the two together in a chain before it all reaches the audio interface? For example...does it go from the Mic into the input of the Preamp, then from the Preamp's output into the Compressor input, then from the Compressor's output finally into the audio interface?

I'm using a Motu 828...If I'm using an external Preamp, what would be the best way to adjust the gain setting on the Motu 828 internal mic-pre in order to bypass it, if that's indeed the proper way...

That's correct, just turn the GAIN all the way down on the 828, simple.

you might want to use an XLR to 1/4 going Compressor out into 828 in
( I dont think the 828 has XLR inputs)

If you get an RNC compressor to match your RNP, all you need is a stereo 1/4" cable (for each channel) to patch them together.

Mic->mic preamp->compressor->A-D converter.
