If anyone has an opinion based on listening to both of these please chime in. Mainly interested in the DA comparison especially at 44.1 (using Aardsync as master clock)
Thanks,
Cory

This is not even close. The Apogee wins by far

A friend of mine, who records mainly classical music, compared them side by side - he bought the Motu.

He told me the Motu was more transparent (meaning neutral) and the apogee had a coloration he didnīt like, but he could imagine for non classicla stuff the Apogee could be good.

So, it seems only to hear both with your qwn ears will give you a good answer.

I have an HD192, and perhaps the Apogee AD8000SE, might be the better unit, but I don't think the AD-16 surpasses the 192. I agree with adebar.

Your ears will be the final judge.

Hey everyone, I was asking about DA only though I appreciate the evaluations presented. I've invested in the Apogee (tried and true conversion at least). Motu, as wonderful as their connecting hardware works, converters are probably still not their strong suit.

Which Apogee converters did he have? The AD8000 and PSX100 do have a bit of coloration to them, but the AD/DA16 and Rosetta 800's are a bit more neutral sounding. Not necessarily better or worse (Apogee says they're only the same level of quality as the SE models, although that's a subjective call that would be hard to quantify), just different. I've found the DA16 to be very neutral myself.
