Dual HD's

Hey gang.

In the latest issue of EQ, there is a tip about running dual hard drives on music computers for DAW improvement, etc. While I understand the need for an additional HD besides the master containing the OS, I'm wondering just what should go on this secondary slaved HD? Obviously audio (.wav, etc?), but what about the music programs and applications themselves? Should they be installed to the secondary drive?

One more: I'm also confused on just how you "tell" your DAW what drive to record to. In my case I'm running Cubase SX. Is their an option to map the recording destination drive? It's probably the project folder that it has you confirm when you first launch the app, right?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I recommend an additional drive for samples; in my case, it is a firewire drive that I can transfer between machines.

The second internal HD is blank for audio (with an extra partition for storage, not applications).

You operations systems and applications (and their associated drivers, extensions etc.)all go on the same (master) drive.

Everything else, files, session folders, etc., on the secondary drive.

You tell the application where to record to when you save the file, session, etc.
