I'm going to register a domain name soon, and would like to set up a website and 1 or 2 email accounts from that site. I've done a little bit of browsing, but I figured I'd try to get some real input as well.
Thanks.

For domain name registration: http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/default.asp?e=com
For hosting: http://www.webmasters.com/
Both have utterly horrid looking websites, but have performed their tasks for me without any hitches and are relatively inexpensive. YMMV.
Cheers,
Alan Tomlinson

I use a web hosting service called ICDsoft.com. It was $60 for the first year and now has dropped to $40 per year.. (Yes, per year).
380 meg of space, 99 emails, very fast quick support and up to five subdomains. And less than $5 a month.

For a domain name I use DomainAway.Com - They used to charge $10 per year, but now is up to $12.99... bastards... :p
For webhosting I use NetFirms.Com - They charge $5 a month. Although I was considering Tascam Jeff's choice... I forgot what did he use...

I went with Godaddy.com for the domain name after reading here and went with hostsave.com for my hosting, only because they charge per month and don't charge anually like some of the other ones. They don't have MYSql hosting there which I will probally need at some point so I might switch to something a bit more robust, but thats why I like monthly payments. I can switch and not pay for a whole year at a time.

We host and have our registration handled by http://www.hostforweb.com . Their rates are about the best around, uptime is as close to 100% as one could ask for, and their tech staff is awesome.
We pay $99/yr to host our site, we haven't even used 1/4 of the space we have available. we have several MP3's, often upload client files on secure pages, do all e-mail, have options for chat rooms and forums, it's a great service.
If you go with them, please mention us, as I think we get a free month fro referrals.

Mines with Yahoo! But I think I'm getting ripped off judging by some of the storage and monthly prices going here. Can I transfer my domain name to another provider? Is it costly? Are there software issues? My entire site is built on Yahoo software, would I have to convert to Dreamweaver? That programme scares the sh1t out of me! For what it's worth, the Yahoo site was a breeze to set up, I am , at best, a novice to intermediate pc user, and I found it easy. Good Luck anyhow, and thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to answer any of the queries I've given,T.

It seems you're just looking for hosting.. but if you are looking for design, PM me. My host is down right now so e-mailing me is outta the question for now.

Just an opinion here, but web design/hosting is sort of like the studio business, home studio vs. pro studio. You can do it yourself at home with relatively inexpensive tools. If you spend a lot of your personal time to actually learn all the ins and outs of it, you get decent results. If you don't, you get average or below results. If you find and use a good pro company, you can get very professional results for not much more money. Just my own perspective.
