I do a lot of my production work by myself, which often means sitting in front of my computer miking vocals or acoustic instruments. The noise from my drives can be a problem. What to you recommend to isolate the computer tower? I also have physical I/O's in the tower (like the AX44 and DSP2416 for the DSP Factory) with a variety of connectors (unbal 1/4", rca, spdif). Is there a patchbay solution that I could use to access these I/O after I've isolated the tower?

Speaking of SPDIF (sorry to post so many questions at once!), Roger mentioned something by ZSystems that took a SPDIF signal and duplicated it to multiple outputs (something I've been looking for!). I couldn't find this company on the web. Can you tell me where I might purchase or at least research this device?

Many Thanks.

ZSYSTEMS is at http://www.z-sys.com.

They make all of the digital audio EQ and routers you could ever ask for.

As for the noise...

For my room now I have a row of book cases spaced out from the wall about 3 feet. My tower and hard drives are on shelves behind the book cases. I use extensions for the keyboard and monitor and I walk around to the other side to change CDs or floppys.

In my previous location I had a big hutch type of cabinet with glass doors. The computers and things that made noise were in the cabinet. I cut holes in the back of it and ran an air conditioner duct right into the cabinet to keep things cool. I could still see everything thru the glass doors, but it was quiet.

Some guys put the computers in another room or a closet. Make sure you keep them cool.

Roger

For isolation, one commercial solution is the Iso-Box. You can see it at http://www.custom-consoles.com.
