Roger,
What brand of converters due you prefer to use with Pro Tools? Do you like the TDM plugins or prefer dedicated outboard gear?

I am happy as a clam with most of the plug-ins. I have the WAVES Gold bundle, most of the DIgi plugs, all of the TC|tools, Mic Mod and Auto Tune from Antares, Smart Pan Pro and RealVerb 5.1 from Kind of Loud, and Aural Exciter from Aphex. The only outboard piece I use is my TC|3000 reverb.
The nice thing about plug-ins is that you only have to buy one of each, With hardware you have to buy 6 limiters or 5 EQs or 3 reverbs.
As far as converters, the Apogee 8000 and PSX-100 are the best, but the ones built into the Digi 888/24 are4 actually the same converters, it is just that for the extra money you get a better analog interface to the signal you are trying to get in and out.
In convertor world, you get what you pay for. If you buy a $300 converter it will probably work better as a door stop.
I do tons of stuff where I use the converters built in to the Digi 888/24 boxes and it sounds fine. The Digi converters are ten times better than the ones that come with the $250,000 Sony 3348HR for instance. That is fine with me.
