Thanks for your advice on mid level DAWs. I was not surprised that you suggested Pro tools. I know this is the system of choice for audio but my focus is more on music/audio for picture, mainly video and television, eventually film.
Is this still a wise choice and if so I believe Avid is the other part of the puzzle?
Are there any realistic entry level add ons to PT that you could suggest along the lines of scoring to film?
Thank you for your time

When you even mention the word Avid, you are talking $30,000 to $100,000.
If you are going to be doing music for video and film, then you will need a version of ProTools that will sync to timecode. Right now ProTools 5.0LE (the version that comes with the 001 system) does not support time code. AQ bunch of us are trying to change that.
If you go with a used d24 system (the one before 24|Mix and 24|MixPlus) you can add the AV option like I did. You can then digitize video at any resolution up to AVR77 (full broadcast quality and full 30 frames per second full screen) or you can import Avid sessions with video and audio.
You won't be able to edit the video, but you then have full protools audio and MIDI capability while syncing to full hi-res video.
You can use other video boards and create a quick time movie, but the resolution leaves a lot to be desired.
I am working on a PBS Steely Dan special to be aired March 1st. The video is being edited on Avid, and I am fixing and mixing the 48 track audio on ProTools AV. It works graet and scrubbing the video along with audio to get the sync right is amazing.
When you start talking sync to picture you are no longer talking about Mid Level DAw in the $3000 range, if you want to do it right.
Good luck
