I am searching for a MID priced DAW system.

The market is flooded with what I call the $1000 range audio card systems, most of them are pretty much the same. Whilst I can understand manufacturers focusing at this level, I want to know where are all the MID priced systems are?

The only ones I can think of are PARIS and the Lexicon core(which was a failure).
My meaning of MID systems is based on retail costs of around $3000. This is my starting budget.

I can't afford Protools, wish I could. My focus is audio for video and television. In addition I am recording instrumental music to CDs.

My set up is based around a PC currently using a Layla hooked to a Yamaha 01v.
I use samplers for sounds.

Also, would an apogee rosetta converter bring me closer in quality to the higher end systems? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would look at the ProTools 001 system or maybe even AudioMedia III with ProTools software. There is also the possibility of buying used ProTools hardware from Digidesign ( ProTools |24 hardware they took on trade up to 24|Mix Plus systems)

If you eventually want a full blown Ptools system, then it might be wise to start with one that you can easily upgrade from?
