Roger , are you using standard CAT 5 patch panels and CAT 5 ethernet patch cables for your digital PB? I am asuming that is for AES/EBU only? What is the pinout for the XLR
to the Patch panel for ethernet's 6 wires?
any help would be great.

Thanks
Randy

Yes just a standard CAT 5 patch panel.

I don't remember the actual pin numbers, but I just connected the three wires from the XLR to two pins each.

If the punch block on the back is labelled 1-2-3-4-5-6 then I would connect pin 1 of the XLR to pins 1 and 6 of the ethernet jack.

Pin 2 of the XLR to pins 2 and 5 of the patch bay and finally, pin 3 of the XLR to pins 3 and 4 of the patch bay. This insures that each signal gets two contacts so that you are sure to have a good connection.

The frequencies of CAT 5 Ethernet is about the same as AES signals so everything works fine.

Thanks Roger for the info!! One last question that forgot to ask. Are you using just plain CAT5 cable to hook to the XLR's. I think that is what you said in your reply, but I just wanted to make shure, so that I dont go out and buy 110Ohm digitalcable if I dont need it.
Thanks
Randy

CAT 5 cable is fine for the pigtails, but keep them short.. 1 to 2 feet. From there connect either digital cables or some of the new high quality audio cables like Canare or one of the ones with conductive plastic shield. Try to keep the cables short and do not use multiple cables plugged together to make a long one.
