Has anyone head about ADATS not liking balanced POWER AC units. I don't know what kind of not liking, but my salesman said there was trouble.

If you are talking about the new M-20's, then balanced power shouldn't be a problem. But, my salesman has told me that a lot of the M-20's are being returned by angry customers over more than a few software glitches. I'm told it has trouble comunicating with the new remote as well.

I have LX-20s. Eddie C said that he has heard this rumour, but if this is true, (and he's NOT saying it is) that the problem would include things with switching power supplies, like computers. So I'm not sure that M-20 would be special to this case. My question would now be; are LX-20s and computers adverse to balanced power? TNX, Gil

I have been using ONLY balance power for 5 years. I was using 3 of the old black ADATS and now I have 6 M-20s with the new remote connected to an 02R, 72 I/O ProTools and a Mackie d8b. I actually have three ballance power units running in parallel (all EquiTech units) which means that some of my gear is plugged into one unit, and some of my gear is plugged into another unit. Everything is fine.
I used to work at a nuclear powerplant and know a lot about balanced power. You can see a copy of my article about balanced power at my web site rogernichols.com.
I would poo poo the rumours. There is nothing that could be caused by balanced power to cause this problem. ALL hospitals use balanced power to prevent ground loops. Did you know that 220 volts in the US is ALL balanced power. There must be something else causing the problem, like some gear plugged in to balanced power and some gear plugged into regular power.

Since I have a bunch of stuff with 2 prongs (Everything with wall worts, and an old cassette deck) I would be in the situation of having somethings on ballanced power, some not. (2 prong stuff and wall worts can't use balanced power, right?) What would be the fall-out from that kind of situation? Also, would I also need a power regulator? TNX, Gil

Most of the balanced power supplies do some regulation, and the ones I use have EMI and spike protection.
The wall warts should be plugged into the balanced power also. The problem starts when you plug things in to other power outlets that are not balanced. Ground loops happen when audio cables connect equipment with different ground potentials.
With balanced power you must connect the shields at both ends of the audio cable. With non balanced systems you often need to float the ground at one end of a balanced audio cable. Check yoour wiring.
