CeeBig; Audio Production is an extension to the art of composition - you start with the materials you have and the vision of the final product. This means you need to learn what each effect does, and why YOU would want it to do that (or not) at a given point on a mix. Start by listening closely to recordings you really like. What did the producer do to achieve that effect? Then, go ahead and experiment, practice, and learn what the tools can do - don't be afraid to do something unorthodox, that could be the 'next big thing' in recorded sound... Use your ears (for quality,) your head (for technique,) your body (for groove) and your heart (for the music.) Good luck.
