Roger, I have been learning recording and mixing pop/rock music for a while now and I am looking now for more mixing know-how to continue my progress (I learned a lot from many people on the net including the 'Roger Nichol Recording Guide' THANKS!). I read a lot. Is there a book or a site you would recommend which gives very detailed and applicable info on EQing concepts and benefits, as well as tips on some work processes used by professional engineers (beside their ears) to make rock/pop/adult contemporary music sound better.
Another question: would you or anyone in this board have tested the following HDRecording gear: SoundTrack DSP24 package from Hoontech? It is 24bits/96khz and EXTREMELY cheap (700USD in Sweden; I guess that is because it comes from Korea and nobody knows about them). I can't afford a MOTU or a GadgetLAbs, so unless I hear some horror stories about the DSP24, I may go for it. It just feels so uncomfortable to take a decision.
Thank you for your time and exeprtise!
JD

As for the DSP24, I haven't tried it, but maybe someone else has. No horror stories from my end.
As far as learning, keep tuned to this station.
Here is a good EQ tip. Instead of trying to ADD the frequencies that are missing, first try to subtract the frequencies that ar too abundant. That is, if something sounds woofy, instead of trying to brighten it up, ty to take out the woofy part.

Thanks ROger!
With EQing now, this is what I did for instance on my last mix: Main voice: 3.25khz +3dB Backvocals: 3.25khz -3dB, 3.75 khz +3db Pads, strings and other fillers: 3.25khz -3dB, +3dB boost at different frquency between 2 and 3Khz Bass: 1.25khz +3db
This did improve the mix but It does not sound satisfactory still. I hope Eqmag will bring some more info soon!
Thanks for your input!
