I've been trying to find that kind of tone but alas no luck. How do you get that kind of breathy tone especially on backing vocals; you know, the kind like monica and mariah carey to take an extreme example.... boosting 7k-10k doesn't really help; the tone i'm hearing is not just EQ, it's something else; some sort of 'noise' that wraps around the voice.. I have a DAW with a rack of analogue gear including a mackie 1604vlzpro, focusrite voicemaster, SPL vitalizer, quadraverb and LXP-1. i'm currently using samplitude and a host of direct x plugins. I'd appreciate any advice.. thank you

Gee, I'd like to help, but for the past 35 years I got the vocals to sound breathy by having the singer sing breathier. Since the breathy vocal is also sung softer than the normal vocal, the tone and harmonic content is different also. You may be able to come close with processing, but nothing will work as good as the artist singing it right in the first place, Have her come in and do the vocal over again.
Thanks for the question
Roger
