Hi there Roger,

First off all I think this forum is a great idea. New problems occur every day with the speed new digital equipment is currently coming on the market.

My problem is this:
I own 2 Tascam DA-38's. I have them running in sync to Cubase or Protools (Both on a MAC)through Tascams dedicated MIDI convertor MC-38. Everything works great, and very fast. I can FFWD and REW the 38's with my mac as a remote, but....I can't get the 38's to respond to the Play and Rec messages my mac sends. The MIDI signal goes through a 03D by the way.
I've had people from Steinberg Holland looking at it in my studio, but nobody seems to know what causes this problem.
I wonder if you or anybody who reads this message has an idea.
Thanks anyway,

Jan

The first thing that catches my attention is the fact that your MIDI signal is going through the 03D.. The first thing to do is sent the MIDI directly to the Tascams and see if the machines respond. If they do, then the problem is the 03D striping off the commands on the way through. Are the Tascams plugged into the THRU jack or the MIDI OUT jack on the 03D? The Tascams should be on the THRU jack.

If the machines work when 03D is bypassed, then you should get a MIDI splitter or some other box that can send multiple MIDI signals in parallel. This will prevent the 03D from blocking the play commands.

Hi there Roger,

I should have mentioned this before, but we already tried plugging direct as well.
Normally I would have stopped looking for an answer by now, but the tascam used to receive MMC from a Souncraft Ghost and they worked fine. Also Cubase / Protools does receive the Play/Rec commands from the tascams. For now that means that I use the Tascams as sort off a remote, but I think you understand I would have liked it the other way around.
