I have FOUR running UPS units with AVR in the house, and one on the mobile DAW cart that hasn't seen much run time these last 8 months. They are all between 1kVA & 1.5kVA. The servers, workstations and home theater system components all protected. And, the entire house phone line is running through a DSL-capable filter.

It is easy to take this component for granted and even move way down the purchase list. But, with the remains of storm Emily dumping on Southern California, these last few days, they have proved their worth. Friday and today have been heavy rain days. Lights have been pulsing in and out between lightning strikes, on the heavier episodes. All the gear is just doing its thing without pause. And, the rain is flowing down hill towards Big Bear Lake!

I just thought I’d put in a PSA (Public Service Announcement) to remind those in storm country to test their existing UPS units and/or get new ones with the AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulation) feature. It is always a bummer to kill useful electronics.
