Jeez. I just saw a blurb on the local fish wrap's back bage that Long John Baldry died. There's been nothing else I've seen.
From the website: 1941 to 2005 - Long John Baldry passed away at the Vancouver General Hospital, July 21 at 10:30 pm after fighting a severe chest infection for the past 4 months. He was surrounded by friends and loved ones and is now at peace. John Baldry will be remembered by his music and the love he generously gave to all those who came in contact with him. Our world is a lesser place without him, for John was a person that enhanced this world with his enormous presence and talent. John Baldry walks with God. - Frank Garcia
Loved that guy's music.

Although I really didn't get to know him that well(not enough time),I filled in for his guitarist(couldn't get through U.S. Customs) at a Bottom Line Gig back in the late 70's.I really wasn't that familiar with any of his stuff at the time and tried to take a crash course of his records the night before(at my then producers apt who knew him at the time) and was surprised at his maturity blues-wise.Anyway,he was very easy going and amiable which made the gig work and it left me with a nice memory, and I'm sad to hear of his passing.R.I.P John.

Wow... Brian Auger spoke very highly of him when I interviewed him last year. Baldry was one of those sleeper figures, at least as far as the stateside radar was concerned ... not a huge star in his own right, but more influential than anyone realized.

I guess it's going to happen as I age that the musicians I really dig are going to start passing. That doesn't make it any easier to take.
RIP John Baldry. Thank you for your recordings and your memory.
Now let's burn down the cornfield.
