Everyone was reminded recently on the Bruce threads about his work with Eugene Record. The "or sumpthin'" on "Have You Seen Her" always makes me smile and always makes me sad.

For a generation of fans reared on the soul sound, Chi-Lites hits such as "Have You Seen Her," "Oh Girl" and "Coldest Days of My Life" were part of the musical backdrop of their lives during the 1970s.
And even though they might not know Eugene Record's name, legions of young music fans continue to be exposed to Mr. Record's music in such varied places as Beyonce Knowles' hit "Crazy in Love" (which was remade from the Chi-Lites' "Are You My Woman") and Fantasia Barrino's controversial "Baby Mama," which samples Chi-Lites' music.
I remember being about 13 years old...making a big sack of popcorn, a jug of lemonade, and pitching a tent in the backyard in the summertime. Of course, an AM radio was a faithful companion back in those days, and, it was always tuned to CKLW. The Chi-Lites got a lot of airplay on CKLW during those early-70s summers. They were definitely a part of the soundtrack to my early teen years.
Guess I'm getting older...
