For you Americans it might not be a big deal but for A dutch guy in Europe,....
I just started really getting into guitars after I got a 1976 Gibson LP for my birthday.
Now I got some guitarvids and among them are Brent Mason and Albert Lee,....
Damn!!! That's what I want man,..I wanna chickenpick ,... I'm hooked on Countryshit and RockabillyLicks...
If one of you Nashvillecats ever see one of those two guys,...please ask them for a Photo with an autograph and send it to me. I promise I'll perform a Voodoo ritual for you so you may live to be 110 years old.

Boosh, Albert Lee is a Brit. I don't know if that's where he lives but he has the accent. I love that stuff as well. I am a student of that stuff, but I can't do what they do. Stuart Smith is another one in that vein.

Yeah, Albert Lee. He played on a lot of Brit New Wave/Roots stuff by Dave Edmonds, etc. He may as well be an American now. Amazing.
Also, check out Hellacasters and a great album by Ricky Skaggs called Highway and Heartaches (Ray Flake is the picker here I believe)

Good call on Ray Flacke Lee! I was just about to suggest Boosh also look into his playing. Ditto that for Emmylou's / The Hot Band's original guitarist - James Burton. He was also Rick Nelson's sidekick, as well as the guitarist for Elvis from the time of his Las Vegas "comback" in the late 1960's until he passed away. All of those guys are masters of the Telecaster and the cool country licks.

I notice by the way that all those guys use telecasters,... is that A MUST? I only have my LP Standard,... well and a Yamaha Strat Clone and a Fender Telecaster from the sixties I believe,..it's in my rockstand but not mine. I don't like those fender necks,..they're to thin and curved for me.

I find the telecaster to be the easiest for that music, but a telecaster was my 1st electric guitar and I bought it because of those guys plus Al Anderson (NRBQ) and Danny Gatton.

The Stones wanted Albert Lee back when Mick Taylor left, but he declined the offer (Ronnie Wood is perfect for that gig though).

Chicken-pickin should be physically easier to play on a LP because of the shorter Gibson scale length (less string tension). Having said that, a Tele (or in the right hands, a Strat) make it easier to get the chicken-pickin tone you're probably going for (because of the longer scale length and single coil pick-ups).

Frank Reckard, the guy who replaced Albert Lee in Emmylou's Hot Band, played a Les Paul Jr IIRC.

Remember, Phil, that pic is less than a year old, from the reunion of The Original Hot Band at the ASCAP Country Music Songwriter Awards. Emmylou was getting a lifetime achievement award.
I only wish they'd included other, later members of her bands, including Albert Lee.

I don't see why I couldn't try this stuff on my LP by the way,... Can't afford a Tele right now and I don't really like them anyways... Of course you can do it on a Les Paul. The LP doesn't have the twang or cutting high end of a Tele though so you won't be able to duplicate that sound totally. Even a Strat can't completely cop that sound.
Clint Strong used a LP when he played with Merle Haggard in the 80s. Note that he was/is primarily a jazz player and wasn't trying to do the "Chicken Pickin'" thing.
Some other awesome country players worth checking out (most of whom primarily use Teles):
-Redd Volkaert -Roy Nichols -Vince Gill -Brad Paisley -Scotty Anderson -Jerry Donahue
