After 26 years or so I finally got to see Mark Knopfler last night. Had great seats, 8th row center stage. Mark has always been one of my favorite soloists; the fact that he's an ace songwriter and unique vocalist is just icing on the cake. It was just magic when he started fingerpicking his Strat, I'm still buzzing from the show. He closed the main part of the show with "Telegraph Road", one of the best records ever made (I had tears down my cheeks, DAMN!), then played "Brothers in Arms" and "Money for Nothing" as an encore. They did their bows, the house lights came up, but the place was going nuts and Mark called the musicians into a huddle, they talked for a bit, and then played three more songs! They played for almost three hours, what a treat! I'm a happy, happy guy today.

That is beyond cool. Knopfler is one of the few guitarists out there who have a truly unique touch and sound. You are one fortunate guy and I'm glad the show lived up to expectations.

Bastard! I couldn't go to the Chet Atkins' Appreciation Society concert MK played, at the Ryman Auditorium, last Wednesday!
Glad you got to see him, though. He's an idol I've wanted to see in concert for 25 years.
Sorry to bring down your thread.

Knopfler is one of those rare guys who, I not only really dig his music and playing, but, he seems like he'd be a nice fellow to boot...a bit on the mischievous side. I remember watching him accompany Eric Clapton on some show, Clapton was playing "Layla", the slow AM radio acoustic version, and Knopfler came out and played along. All of a sudden, Knopfler adds a slower, shuffley version of the famous "Layla" lick...and Clapton shot him a glance like "We didn't rehearse it that way", and Knopfler shot him back a smile like "I know, deal with it." Clapton was almost chuckling, and they finished the song well.
