Hey Phait, I don't have the exact same circumstances, but I have had some pretty shitty feelings when ya realize you're basically fucked so why don't I just drink evil coolaid and end it . But then I realized it ain't over till it's over!
I'm going to school in Superior, Wisconsin for Music Composition, then I'm going to musictech in Minneapolis, then I'm gonna move to tennesee or something, I dunno the details yet.
I'm 24 and apparently a "child" according to Weewus who prolly is 40 and therefore not important anymore since he already sucked and fucked whatever good things he could find out of life and now is waiting to die. :p Plus weewus is a really, really mean, sarcastic, evil deity.
Like I said, I'm 24 BUT.... I've already had my ups and downs! I started production in '99 using fruity loops and became obsessed. I get depressed cause I wasn't the next Trent Reznor and sell my studio. I currently repeat this process every 6 months. It's expensive but if I beat the demon enough times eventually it will die. Plus I have OCD. Anyways, I tried a while ago to get a job with Inner Sea recordings, the guys who own Crane Song, since they are like 4 blocks from my appartment, I wanted to be an intern their, hell I'd even buy the beer. But Dave never called me back, so guess what? Instead of killing myself or going into psychology, I'm going to harass him and keep harassing him until he realizes I'd make a great asset to his studio AND he'd get free beer!
The music game is a challenging and very rewarding toy if you're up to sticking with it. If it kills you, then at least you can tell God you gave it your best. That's all He expects I think. "Do everything with your whole heart" Some verse like that.
Anyways, I've only got ya beat by 2 years but these ELDER users on this forum are correct when they say life is a bitch and following your passion requires dedication, and it ain't gonna be easy. If your doing shit that is not challenging for ya and don't make ya grow or require ya to learn new stuff, then it probably isn't what you're supposed to be doing.
Life is about learning, growing, and patience. EVERYTHING about the Music industry is freaking hard, ya know this already I bet. Oh, and just cause you hit a roadblock, don't stop pushing! Take a step back, gather your thoughts, then figure out how to go OVER it. Yeah that's the bitch part. I can't tell you how to do it. Ultimitely, life is a journey we take by ourselves.
Don't depend on people here to walk with you step by step, they can teach you things they have learned on their journey, and it's cool that they care enough about you to take the time to tell you, but you must make your own decisions based on much contemplation and self exploration.
I dig your music. I live 2 hours from you. Shit we should meet somewhere and hang out. I'm not a prick and I got a girlfriend so don't worry I'm not trying to put the moves on you or anything but we should hang out sometime. You could check out my baby studio or I could check out yours. Maybe go to first avenue or something. Or hell let's do a collaboration. I love doing collabs cause it forces me to share my ideas and to learn from them and grow! Whatcha think?
Bottom line. Don't worry, the game ain't over yet for anyone still breathing. If music is your passion, then God already gave you everything you need to make it work. It's up to you do be industrious and wise in decision making!
Let's collaborate or chat or something, you seem cool.

Wisconsin isn't a dramatic place to live, you're right. We never get suicide bombers or actual crime of any sort. But it doesn't discount the fact that there are still people there. Albiet not many. People with issues and problems and dreams and mental friends just like people from the coasts. And I'm not talking about the hopes of someday having a farm.
Lee knight. Your almost right on the money man. I respect Trent, I'm currently wearing black nail polish, I'm not gay, but I'm not bored yet, give me a few hours, though.
Yeah, I respect outated people though. They have more memories than I do so don't go geriatric lynch mob on me please.
Hey, what's wrong with Fruity Loops for a beginner? I take issue with that comment the most.
This isn't a age war peeps, you guys already lost to father time.
Phait, you still out there? Alive preferrably.

Yeah that's cool I'm used to it by now. I was at a gas station yesterday smoking by the gas pump and some 70+ year old dude walks up to me and asks me if I'm stupid or something cause I'm smoking by the gas pump. I told him I'm not smoking by the gas pump, I'm smoking by my truck. Then I told him to go back to the nursing home before he has a stroke. The dude wanted to fight me, got up in my face. It was great. I backed down cause I don't want to get beat up by him. I felt a rush like I hadn't felt since I was 16. Good times, it reminds me that I'm still breathing. I had it coming though.

Okay, I thought the first post was a little off, but then there's this:
Then I told him to go back to the nursing home before he has a stroke. The dude wanted to fight me, got up in my face. It was great. I backed down cause I don't want to get beat up by him. I felt a rush like I hadn't felt since I was 16. Good times, it reminds me that I'm still breathing. I had it coming though. Um...yeah, I'd say you did. The fact that you think that's cool.....hmmmm. I guess us old "losers" to Father Time have one thing on you. Keep on this track, dude, and you'll lose long before Father Time catches up to you.

That's like twice you've said you're not gay in the same short thread, and without any provocation. One more unsolicited denial, and I think that means you're officially gay.
By the way, you're not Phait, are you? (or are you?)

You seem to be turning it into a war, or attempting to. Don't know a jibe when you see one?
We haven't lost a damned thing yet, to father time or anything else, unlike many of the youngsters out there with too much angst, such as Phait. Too many of you are too willing to blame their lacks on their heritage, their upbringing, their schooling, or lack of, damned near anything except their own responsibilties to themselves. Life is what you make of it and you can do something or not. That's your choice, not mine, nor is it anyone elses. Your parents, speaking rhetorically not directly, gave you, good or bad, the best they could do. Too many of you expect way too much to be given to you without working for it, expecting things to happen instantly. It don't happen that way. You gets what you earns, nothing more, nothing less.
I like Phait. He just needs to get his ass out of the house and do something besides mope around complaining that things aren't going as he wishes but won't get off his ass to do anything toward that end. Shit happens and when it does, fertilize the damned yard, don't complain about the stink.
I'm 56 years old with a mind that still thinks it's 30 something and a body that's nearing 90 'cause it's been rode hard and put away wet too many times. Doesn't stop me from enjoying my life, regardless of where it's taken me, or continuing to take me.

Evosix, when I first skimmed through you post I thought it sounded pretty cool. I even thought "Hey I live about 4 hours from Minneapolis, maybe me, you and Phait could catch a show at First Ave sometime." But when I first skimmed your post I missed some of the more troubling parts.
Originally posted by evosix: I'm going to harass him and keep harassing him until he realizes I'd make a great asset to his studio I think this strategy might not be a good idea. There are a number of people on this board who run their own studio. Maybe they could give you advice about what a typical studio manager would be looking for. But please spare the ageism. You will be old too one day, I hope. Just be safe and please don't smoke next to a gas pump.

Lee knight. Your almost right on the money man. I respect Trent, I'm currently wearing black nail polish, I'm not gay, but I'm not bored yet, give me a few hours, though.
I never painted my nails....too gay. :p But I did have a long coke sniffer pinky nail that I used to paint dark blue....not that I ever sniffed coke, not my scene. I also wore earings, eye liner and combat boots.
It was during my 'Nobody understands me, I don't even understand myself' phase of life.....uh...which is still going on.
This isn't a age war peeps, you guys already lost to father time.
What a dumb statement. As if you have ANY IDEA what you are talking about. I've met people 20 years old who are older than I will EVER BE. Calender worship does nothing for me. Staying healthy and vibrant means more than counting revolutions around the sun.
I told him I'm not smoking by the gas pump, I'm smoking by my truck. Then I told him to go back to the nursing home before he has a stroke.
Sounds like his aged, decrepit mind had more on the ball than your's did that day.
By the way, smoking is DUMB! As a person so concerned over aging and being 'old', why in the hell would inhale something that ages you faster, diminshes your health, and puts you in an early grave?
Oh that's right....it makes you look coollllll!
By the way, it's unfortunate that our brother Phait has chosen to bail on us. I guess he didn't like our responses to his threads putting blame on everyone and everything but himself for not getting enrolled in school, so he chose to walk away from us. Sad, because Phait was well liked around here, but it was rather hard for many of us to watch him repeatedly choose the comfort of remaining stagnant in his basement, depending upon his parents, rather than step out of the nest and learn to fly on his own. Phait never liked being told things he didn't want to here.
I think I speak for everyone here when I say, I wish him all the best, and hope he figures out what he wants to do, and more importantly, get's there.
Transitions are not often easy. I understand that very well myself.
