That 'bout sezitall, boyee!
Tryna catch that ever-inspirational theme song to NBC TV show "Joey", I get glazed over by a stage shot of Keith Richard doing that touch-my-knees-with-my-elbows, left, right, move he loves; Darryl Jones, who's put on a few pounds, bounces across the BG & then BAM, RebberLipsMcGee flaps his hands & we off to the races...to the bank for a mortage!
I liked it better when I Couldn't Get No Satisfaction 'cept from a Snickers (TM) bar...

Baby boomers in the market for mortgages for their vacation homes grew up with the stones. This is perfect targeting. However, Mick and the boys do look a bit lame posing for this. Is this any better/worse than Moby using commecials to get his stuff heard? In his case it was to get the material out there. In the case of the Stones is purely cashing in on the Stones well-established brand.
Id love to know how much they made for that spot. Im sure they negotiated from strength and got an offer they just could not refuse.

The Rolling Stones? Are they still alive? I would have thought that so many years of shooting Heroin and chain smoking cigarettes would have put Keith Richards in a casket by now.

I think Jagger is one of those guys who actually enjoys negotiating and seeing how many ways he can make more money. I guess somebody's got to, and it came in handy back when most bands were getting badly ripped off... but it does get annoying sometimes. But whatever.
I do get tired of the "aren't they too old" line though. Nobody cares when old blues, jazz or classical guys (or any other genre of music) keep going till they drop. Well... rock'n'roll is getting that old now. I for one hope I'm still rocking at those guys' age and beyond, and if anybody thinks it's lame, too bad.
Oh, and Keith was a heroin addict for 10 years. He's been off the stuff for more than 25. So the "junkie" tag is getting old, too, although it's true he still chain smokes and drinks too much whiskey. I doubt anybody including him thought he'd live this long, but he's got some kind of mutant genes or something. I think he's more or less become what he always wanted to be - a wizened old blues dude.

Hey, don't take more than HALF the stuff I post seriously. I do like to take shots at "famous" folks for being human though, and its free.
Yep, grandpop Mick is the business man. The chain smoking will eventually get to Keith Richards, or anybody that smokes that much. Every person that smokes will reach a point where the damage is irreversible, and will end up with nothing less than emphysema or lung cancer. But we all got to die of something.
Keith and the stones have been into "old blues players" since the early days of their success. I still like some of their old music, but I don't know they've really done anything "new" of late.
Times have changed on how people from my generation conduct ourselves at a ripe old age. I was talking to a woman friend of mine that's an attorney, 38 years old, and she commented that one of the senior partners in her law firm is 60 years old, still goes to concerts, and has been known to smoke a joint on occasion.
You're not to old to party if your inclined too, and you're not to old to play if you can still get to the gig. Having people willing to hire you is another topic for a different thread.

I'd say deader than you'll ever be... but that makes them sound a lot cooler than they are.
If they were really dead, they could slowly start rebuilding their dignity...
At the rate the Stones are debasing what few fond memories we may have of them, Loggins and Messina and Peter Frampton will be cool again before the Stones are.

Some bands and artists can grow old with something approaching dignity and occasionally even more than a shadow of their former hipness... look at Leonard Cohen or Neil Young or David Bowie. Hell, Sonic Youth are getting pretty old, now, too, and they still have a couple shreds of hip clinging to them...

PS... Okay... I definitely have way more than a few fond memories of the Stones left. I really, really liked the Stones. But... well... Nothing.

Well, I guess that's what happens when you stay around too long, do world tours, continue to play music, but not doing anything really new. Things can get stale.
But if I was 10% as successful as they were, I'd be a happy camper.

Well, if you have been around as long as I've been, during the British Invasion, they were ranked up there with the Beatles, in terms of popularity. Long after the Beatles called it a career, the Stones were once referred to as the "World's greatest rock n' roll band" by Playboy magazine. But, what did they know about music?
I never put them on the same level as the Beatles talent wise, but they had some good albums and have been (or is that has been ) at a high level of success for a LONG time.
So theblue1, what's your level of success?

Not a lot of places to go Camping in Long Beach, CA Blue. There's a TON of great places to go camping here in PA to get away from people like you.
10,000 years sounds pretty good. Your attitude could stand some improvement though.
