Someone stole 7,500 lbs of ammonium nitrate out in Huntington Beach - about 60 miles from here. My wife heard about it on the local TV news. Here\'s a link to a story about it. 
They say it's not explosives grade fertilizer, so that's something - but the fact that someone is out there stealing that stuff is, in and of itself, a cause for concern.

Another reason for organic agriculture. Manure just doesn't have the punch of nitrate. I'm sitting here less than two hours drive from where the OKC bomb came together. One of my bandmates, a veteran, says he could be much more dangerous with access to a hardware store than a gun show.

It's somewhat reassuring that it's not 'weapons grade' (I can't believe I'm using that term with an almost straight face talking about fertilizer)... but, OTOH, if you know anything about OC's Sheriff (whose no. 2 man is continually under investigation these days, it seems like, for a range of possible crimes) and OC's local PDs -- you know we'd just about be better off with the Keystone Cops investigating...
The only southern California county I know that's more dysfunctional in terms of county governance is San Diego... always teetering on insolvency, shot through with corruption -- and burdened by a populace so short-sighted and greedy that they'd let half the county burn down rather than fund local fire departments.
What is it they say -- in a democracy you get the kind of government you deserve?

I have not looked at any in depth reports about how it was done, and I'm not sure I want to give anyone any ideas of how to do it either, but I imagine it wouldn't be as difficult as you might think, given the right vehicle and equipment - most of which was probably already on site or could be brought in fairly easily.

I just heard an apology from a news organization for putting "ammonium nitrate" into the story -- which was not, according to the feds, accurate.
