Did we ever get a definitive answer about the possibility of using multiple 1010's with PT MP?
Thanks mi amigo!

Phil, it works, but I know you are waiting for something "official".

Thanks guys... maybe I need to place a call to some of my contacts at Digidesign and see if I can get a final answer on it.
If it's using the Delta drivers, and the Delta drivers "see" and "address" multiple 1010's as a single "unit" (as I believe is the case), then I would imagine that Digidesign would have to INTENTIONALLY cripple that capability within the PT MP software in order for it NOT to work... and I imagine that could be something that they might "correct" in a later software version, making multiple units incompatible with those later versions of PT MP... which would suck for anyone (such as myself ) who decided to go out and buy a few 1010's specifically to have more I/O with PT.
Thanks again guys - I think I'll call Digi this week and see if I can finally get to the bottom of this.

whats the consensus about the 1010's sound?
i've heard both good and bad about it, have not had opertunity to hear/use one myself.
i would hope it sounds better than an 001, no?

It's been a while since I've heard one, and I THINK (not certain, Gus can confirm / deny) that they improved them at one point, but in general, I'd say "yes" they have better converters than what you'd have in a Digi 001. M-Audio's stuff is generally pretty good IMO. Certainly great "bang for the bucks". Some of their preamps are surprisingly good - especially in their price class.

For their price point, M-Audio's products offer great bang for the buck, just like many other manufacturers do into their target markets.
Some people can not live without MOTU, some other stand firmly behind ECHO and so on... most manufacturers do better business by creating loyalty from their customers. I have mentioned in several times that currently there are NOT bad products in the market. Just go through all the NAMM's booths and see all the different options. Maybe some of them don't suceed but you can blame bad marketing or simply not generating enough expectation as a "new" product.
There are badly manufactured or low-profile oriented products but nowadays we all can get a decent-sounding audio card for even less than a hundred bucks. Rejoice!
Specifically talking about the 1010, since its breakout box contains all the connections -the converters are into the card, so go figure-, we state it has a very low noise operation. At this moment, there are several great competitors to the 1010, but since it came about 4 years ago, it has gained some good reputation throughout the years, at any price point.
It is unfair to compare against the original 001 since that was a 24/48 unit which together with two mic preamps, ADAT ports and Pro Tools software costed about the same than a single Delta 1010. THAT was bang for the buck back then!

Yes, you can be assured that the converters are MUCH better than those found on the 001.
