Well I dunno who Paul is, but my thoughts are - it could be interesting. AC/DC pulled off getting a brand new singer after the death of Bon Scott and went on to do great things. I'm not so convinced with INXS though I gotta admit.

Thanks Mark Burnett for further eroding the credibility of modern music. You and Simon Cowell have sucessfully turned having a career in music into a game show.
Most of he 11 hopefuls that INXS have to choose from are people who have done some time in bands, but if I were in INXS, I wouldn't want some studio audience in Hollywood to decide my future singer. I'd want to know if the candidiate can sing and is charismatic, but I'd also want to know if they can write, and if they're a cool hang.
When's the backlash going to happen?
Great rock and roll is/was about flipping off the establishment and following your heart.
How could you piss on the legacy of Michael Hutchence like this? It's the equivalent of the Doors going on the dating game to find a replacement for Jim Morrisson.

Who wrote the hits for INXS? Without knowing for sure my guess is the departed singer. If it was someone else in the band then they would have already found another singer and kept on going.
I like American Idol for what it is, but this INXS thing IS pissing on the memory of a good performer.

Seems to me that if the band is letting other people decide who there new singer is they're just in it for the publicity.
Imagine if they get someone that they can't stand or can't musicly get it together with them.

Hi all,
Actually, I think it was the Farris brothers that did most of the writing.... FWEIW, I know of a few people that have auditioned for INXS WAAAAY before this show was ever dreamed up, but for one reason or another, they didn't work out. So who knows, it might work out for them after all.
For those interested, they did have a guy for a while, a great singer named John Stevens, but due to some "interesting" onstage behaviour during a European tour leg with Blondie, he was asked to depart. I think that a lot of that had to do with the fact that they were GIVING the INXS tickets away to every one who bought a ticket to see Blondie....
IMHO, I think that they should just bow out gracefully, or, if they still want to play, start a new band from scratch, with a completely new name and identity. Michael Hutchence was a VERY charismatic frontman, and a great rock singer - just check out the dvd "Live Baby Live" to see what I mean.... INXS ruled the world when "Kick" came out, and I really think it's sad that they are willing to potentially drag their good name through the mud.
But either way, if it means good new music from INXS, then that's got to be a good thing !
Peace.

I never cared for INXS, but if they wanted to continue, why did it take seven years to come to that conclusion.
Oh, there'$ a rea$on to get thing$ going with the band again>

I never cared for INXS, but if they wanted to continue, why did it take seven years to come to that conclusion. Thems a fighten words! They were one of my favorite bands of the 80's 90's. It was crazy how the lead singer died though. I have a feeling that whoever they get will play only a few gigs and then get dumped.

It hasn't been seven years as such - they have played gigs with Terence Trent D'Arby and John Stevens...

I wasn't a fan, esp. of Micheal Hutchence, but this whole idea is just distasteful. As you say, don't put it up for public debate, only the band can decide if they can find someone they can work with....

I'm pretty sure the band will decide who the singers going to be.I think it's a great opportunity for one of these guys or gals.As far as the original line up goes it looks like all are there.

I watched it because I was stuck and home and nothing else was on. It was much better than I expected and the backing band is pretty good. The origional INXS members did decide who got the boot, but ... is this going to last 15 weeks! I could follow it maybe 3 or 4 weeks. Not 15.

(seriously... Andrew Farris shared writing credits on pretty much the entire catalog with Michael Hutchence, but word was that he was the primary songwriter in the band).

I didn't watch the show, but it was on the news last night because a fella from our neck of the woods is a finalist. Good luck to him.
The show premise makes me cringe, but they do whatever will get them the most publicity, these days.

Hey Nursers -
What did you think of Terence Trent D'Arby when he fronted INXS for that brief period ? Personally, I thought he was a great change of direction for the band. Esp. after I saw him perform at those handful of gigs with INXS during the NRL half-time grand finals and all that....
Peace, Quarterwave

Peace, Quarterwave I would like to have seen that. I like the old INXS and I really like the old Terence Trent D'Arby CD. I still play it sometimes. Too bad his comments knocked him out of stardome. I assume that is what knocked him out.

Peace, Quarterwave I agree - he seemed a good pick to be the new front-man - I think if they'd stuck with him they might have pulled off the transition.
I saw the first show last night, and it's hard to see who will fit the bill. The black guy was the best performer IMO though he has to lose his current haircut. A couple of the female contestants weren't too bad either.
