Mmmmmm. Gin Martinti! I agree, the rest are something else but not a Martini. Bombay Blue Saffire is my favorite.

Don't give those guys any ideas, Ted! They're already using pickled octopus!
Dak, you haven't had good gin. Look for Plymouth - a bit more expensive, but smooooooth.

When I was 15, I tangled with an entire plastic bottle of Dixie Bell- I made very short work of it- and lost. And lost. And lost. Boy, what a losing streak- for a good, well, actually bad, three days... Never been the same since. Can't deal with gin. But I do like a particularly good beer, like Otter Creek Oktoberfest, Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter, Wagner Dockside Amber, or the like. Or maybe some tequilla, or a B-52...
Yuhp, for starters, they've got gin in 'em. But I suppose that's better than an octupus, hold the pickle...

Reminds me of a Denis Leary rant on coffee flavored coffee.
"Stop adding things to my coffee. What's next? Add your whole breakfast to my coffee? Eggachino?"

Low-quality plastic-bottled sorry-@$$3d excuse for gin with quite the cheepnis factor; they also distribute some terrible alleged vodka nastiness of the same brand-name and plastic bottle.
"That's like saying "I don't like red wine, I had a whole bottle of Ripple when I was 15"" Well, it is, and it isn't...
I got violently ill from the stuff, doubtlessly a case of genuine alcohol poisoning, so the discernable scent of any gin, no matter how top-shelf, makes me cringe to this day. As for its inclusion in mixed-drinks, if I can't tell it's in there, I'll probably be alright with it. But at one time the mere faintest whiff could make me retch involuntarily!
Please, enjoy your gin! Don't worry about saving any for me, I'll get by!

The "gin" thing happened to me, only my poison was Southern Comfort. I'm not really too friendly with that stuff to this day.

For the most part, any cheap alcohol is hideous.
People who hate tequila usually have only had the bargain-basement brand.
It seems that everyone is aware of premiere vodka, and order drinks accordingly (Stoli martini and so on). Personally, I like gin, as long as it's good gin. Tangueray is the minimum. The alcohol that messes with me is rum. High sugar content, bad hangovers... it's not for me.
Since I only drink rarely, I might as well get the good stuff when I do.

If you mix three parts gin and one part Southern Comfort, you have what we call a "Bootlegger". True story.

I also had the REALLY bad SoCo experience as a teenager.

It makes me gag to even smell, to this day.

A friend of mine had an alcoholic mother (a for real alcoholic, she drank herself to death a couple of years after this story took place). Long story short, on one of many occasions we took a little bit out of every bottle and put it all in a 32oz sports bottle. There were a LOT of things there- i'm talking about 20 different bottles of stuff, easily. Jagermeister, Jim Beam, SoCo, Cuervo, Jack Daniels, etc...
Well, another long story short, i wasn't catching a buzz like everyone else, so i chugged a significant portion of this mixture, probably about 7 or 8 shots worth on top of whatever amount I already had. It tasted about the same as chewing rock salt would.
I paid for that in so many ways for days. And days. And to this day (It was about 15 years ago) there is plenty i cannot remember. For the longest time i couldn't stomach any hard alcohol- no matter what it was it'd come right back up within minutes. I had some shots of tequila a few years ago, and though it stayed down it sparked off a round of anxiety attacks that lasted awhile.
So these days, i just drink b33r

I guess I have to admit that gin is an acquired taste - that I've acquired When i ordered a regular martini with my dad once, he shuddered and said "Good Lord, I've raised a gin drinker!"
The best way I've found came from an interview with Arthur Schlesinger, who was JFK's national security advisor. Veddy distinguished. 7 parts gin to 1 part dry vermouth. That's pretty "wet" by most standards, but the gentleman is correct - best way.
Another tip is not wash your glass with soap. Treat it like a wok, and let it establish its own character.
Drinking is fun, in moderation. Drinking just to drink is and get drunk is scary.

The alcohol that messes with me is rum. High sugar content, bad hangovers... it's not for me. And to make matters worse, we tend to mix it with other sweet drinks. But it pays to look around for one of the better ones: I used to like a Nicaraguan rum called "Flor de Caņa". There's some pretty good Haitian rum, too. And if I want it to taste like bubble gum, I just put Grenadine in it. BUBBLE YUM??!! Let a drink be a drink.

Rum gives me heartburn, in short order.
Gin is in, baybee, and naysayers be phuqued.
I had my tussle with a bottle of Johnnie Walker--think it was Black--back in college. I'd had the lion's share of the bottle, and good gawd did I have a technicolor yawn that. Scotch and I have since made up, although I don't hang with Johnny anymore.
phaeton, in college we'd make "Death Punch" for every party our house had. Lots of ingredients, never the same twice, and in quantities that puts your little 32oz sports bottle to shame.
Sure am glad to be alive.
