Unfortunately, they don't seem to have a problem thinking of ideas. Interesting today, normally buses and underground trains for London are fairly silent (except for the hiss of I Pods and Walkmen), today people are talking to each other.

Hmmmm, is Thwart your favorite word BiC?
All I know is this happened in my home town and there was no signs or warnings as to it happening so now we need to prevent anything like this happening again and be more vigilant than ever.

Actually, I was wondering why they let airplanes fly around and around the 4th of July fireworks here in Austin, like, what if they were spraying anthrax on everyone?
I found these statistics for 2002 USA deaths, to compare the 3000 that unfortunately were lost on 911.
Diseases of heart.........................696,947 Malignant neoplasms.......................557,271 Cerebrovascular diseases..................162,672 Chronic lower respiratory diseases........124,816 Accidents (unintentional injuries)........106,742 Diabetes mellitus......................... 73,249 Influenza and pneumonia....................65,681 Alzheimer’s disease........................58,866 Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome & nephrosis..40,974 Septicemia.................................33,865 Intentional self-harm (suicide)............31,655 Chronic liver disease and cirrhosis........27,257 Essential (primary) hypertension and hypertensive renal disease..............................20,261 Assault (homicide)........................ 17,638 Pneumonitis due to solids and liquids......17,593
For instance: you are 35.58 times more likely to be in a fatal accident than a 911 terror event, or 232.31 times more likely to die from heart problems.
Paranoia can be a good thing, but it can be debilitating also, somewhere you have to draw the line to be practical and not to be in "fear" - isn't that what "they" want?

What does it matter? Being in the military, it's within my volcabulary.
Just as "mum" is within your's.
We will never prevent anything like this from ever happening again. It's going to happen again. That's the nature of the world we live in today. We simply need to learn how to protect ourselves from it. Just to name a few, ask yourself:
Where's the safest spot to sit on a bus, train, airplane, subway? Inside or outside aisle near the windows? It's best to be away from windows on a bus or train because of exploding glass. Plus if you are in the aisle seat, it will make it easier for you to escape. But if you are in an airplane, and it is hi-jacked, the best place for you to be is at a window seat, preferrably in the rear. Aisle seats bring you physically closer to the hi-jackers and generally the hi-jackers will stay centered and forward to give them access to the cockpit.
Do I take a taxi instead of a bus or subway?
If I take the bus, do I want to be waiting at busy or slow stops where crowds gather?
When I see someone who looks suspicious, will I have the guts to report them or will I simply shrug it off in hopes that I am wrong?
When I go to a restaurant, do I sit inside or outside if they have tables outside the restaurant? An explosion is more likely to occur outside of the restaurant than inside due to car bombs and walk-by suicide bombers.
Do I wear any clothing which identifies my nationality? I do not want to draw attention to myself, especially if in a foreign country.
Do I really need to hang out in crowded places such as shopping malls, concerts, and movie theatres?
Do I choose an "inside, hallway" hotel room, or one that is exposed to the outside and the street below? I am much safer choosing an inside hotel room because I will reduce my risks from car bombs.
Do I take the elevator or the steps? It is much safer taking the steps in the event of a power failure, fire, or snapped elevator cables from an attack.
If I'm in my office or home and hear a distant detonation (not in the same building), do I go outside to "investigate"??? It may very well be a chemical or biological or even nuclear detonation. So I should close all the doors, vents- fireplace, stove (turn off any window air conditioners- a rarity for England indeed) and windows until I know for sure from local authorities what type of detonation it was. I do not want to introduce any toxins into my office or home, especially if I am downwind from the explosion.
I lived in England for 3 years, so I know how expensive it is to drive and maintain taxes on a vehicle. But you will most definitely be less vulnerable to an attack if you were to drive your own vehicle, ride a bike, or take a taxi. I am also speaking to those who live in US metro cities.
Protection measures we in the military use:

Steadyb, they (your parents) aren't called Doug and Karen are they? Just a small chance but I'm trying to track down some LA tourists who were staying in Euston on Thursday.

Group hug!!! We're all safe (for the time being) and that's what counts.
Just heard from cousin Jenny. Her and her husband were staying in London near one of the blast sites, and Jenny mentioned that she'd been taking that very subway on a daily basis during their stay. They came back the 5th, though. So, they're safe.

I was watching the news about the blasts the day after they occurred. They showed a man, his face bruised, cut and bandaged taking a bus down the same route he had taken when he was injured the day before.
They showed countless people taking the subway and buses in an attempt to demonstrate to the perpetrators that they were not going to keep them down.
England has been through many things and the strength of your people is stunning. I'm happy to hear that everyone here is doing well. Be strong, be resilient and never let fear run your life.

Just so y'know, I heard from Teahead this morning, he and the other former members of the Cusp were all in Ireland at the time, he just had an eight-day overtime stretch and then went to visit a friend who'd moved to another town.
Wish that hadn't happened at all, but I'm proud of the way you're all standing up!

There are of course two shining lights amongst the terrible week the UK have gone through over the past week:
1. You will put on one kick ass Olympics, crap food notwithstanding.
2. The Aussies are flogging the Poms in the cricket, so at least that is back to normal :p

And dont forget the service and fly by for WWII veterans yesterday at Bucks Palace marking the end of WWII and resulting in a Million Poppies being dropped from a Lancaster bomber which was very moving indeed and makes us remember why we live in a free world after the sacrifices our elders made.
Base, did you not see the news last night, they arrested 3 people at Heathrow Airport last night but they are not saying wheter its in connection with the London bombings.

This picture has to show that us Londoners are resiliant and still able to go out and give thanks to all those who died and sacrificed for us during WWII. I love this picture and it spits in the face of the bastards who choose to ruin our way of life and our freedoms!
What a fantastic picture of 2 veterans

There was a great atmosphere on Sunday at the Mall for the parade/flyover. Everyone seemed determined to go about their noraml business. It was pretty croded and hit so we lay in the park near Buckingham Palace, just close enough to see part of the parade and watch the flypast overhead. Tryng to get home was a bit difficult though as all the thousands who are normally on the Picadilly line are crammed on the few buses going back up to Kings Cross/Euston. Next time we'll walk. Good to see London getting back to (almost) normal today.

Hi Guys and Shars,
Sorry for not responding before now, I've been taking a long needed break away from the forums lately. I'm glad to see that you are all okay over in London. Take care and stay safe. I just wanted to check in and let you know that you folks are in my thoughts even if I'm laying low on the forums.
