I realize alot of you don't play the pubs but we just played a cool place Saturday night in Portsmouth, Virginia...in Olde Towne, the pub is upstairs and called The Castle. Excellent selection of beer, fantastic food, great staff, and one of the coolest halls I've ever played. The building itself is a treasure, one of the oldest in town. The manager gave us free food, and free beer, plus our normal fee...no questions asked. Even gave us more dates...even before we played! Ha Ha!!! The place got packed early, and everyone was partying. We all had a blast and wished they all were like this one pub. Just wondering if any of you guys still slumming in the pubs like us, have any similar or disimilar stories! P.S. The old building had some great acoustics as well.....and of course the eye candy....did I mention the eye candy......DOWN BOY!!!!!

strat, now that new york city in the last year has shut down many of the clubs out there(Chicago BLUES closed on sat night, wetlands is closing in sept, manny's carwash is gone, coney island high gone, louisiana is gone, etc), crappy bars in Jersey are the mainstay of where we play (with the exception of hogs n heifers and the lakeside lounge in NYC). we always drink for free, but there's only a coupla places that feed you and one you aren't really sure if its a burger or a rat on a bun.... yummmm.

Hey D....looks like you gotta move man!!!! Ha Ha!!!! You're into Rockabilly aren't you? Move to the Triangle.....NC that is, the folks are pretty bohemian there, and dig eclectic stuff. We travel there often, and the pay ain't bad. You'll pull $1200 to $1500 a night there without a hitch. What's cool is there's Richmond, DC, Hampton Roads all decent driving distance. I've heard Atlanta is kicking right now, but I don't know.

Hey Strat,
Ever played "Friar Tucks"?
My old drummer is from Portsmouth area. Tom Costello. We hooked up when he moved to Tampa, FL, and our old band played at Friar Tucks in October of 1994.
He used to be in a band called Resin Nation.

You're not gonna believe this, but the manager that booked us at The Castle used to run Friar Tucks....what a coincidence. Tom Costello sounds damn familiar....but I know faces more than names. I just came back on the scene as of January of this year after a lengthy layoff from music, so I didn't play there, but have been there many times. Come on down again.....there's plenty of places to party and play here.....though the money on the beachfront isn't what it used to be. It's the people who make it fun these days anyway.

Strat,
Tom Costello used to be the drummer for Resin Nation before he relocated to Florida around 1993.
Tom is a short guy who kind of looks like Bud Bundy (Dave Faustino) from married with children.
I haven't been back to Virginia since that show in 1995. If I ever make it through there again I will let you know.
