Hey all,

I consider myself an intermediate. Knowledgable on some topics, clueless on others, and in-between on most.

I'm looking for some good books on studio technique. I have F. Alton Everest's "Master Handbook of Acoustics" and David Gibson's "The Art of Mixing", and I'm looking for some more material.

Everest's book is a bit over my head (can't blame the guy for going into detail), and the Gibson book is rather short.

So, are there others that you would recommend?

Wiggum

"The Mixing Engineer's Handbook" by Bobby Owsinski is pretty good.

I was going to mention "The Master Handbook of Acoustics", but you already have that one.

For business oriented stuff, in truth, see: "Confessions of a Record Producer" by Moses Avalon. Jim Aiken, the editor, hangs out here too.

For success oriented business advice, see "Audio Recording for Profit" by Chris Stone.

All excellent books!

Zen Guitar by Philip Toshio Sudo -- Great, great, great musician philosophy book... Well written, short, easy to understand but very deep... If you dig the philosophical side of this forum, you'll probably dig the book, regardless which instrument you play... Everything in this book could equally apply to recording.

The Complete Beatles Chronicle by Mark Lewisohn -- I haven't read a Beatles trivia book in years, but this is probably the only one anyone will ever need... I'm only halfway through the book and I *can't wait* to get to the later years when every move they made in the studio is obsessively documented. I love being reminded just how much hard work goes into something that sounds so effortless...

"Behind the Glass"
Each chapter is an interview with a different producer. It's not very technical, but it's a good read when you are on the crapper.

As far as non-musical reading, I recommend a book called "Black Hawk Down".
It's the true story of a military situation the US had in Mogadishu Somalia . I'm not one for action type novels, but I couldn't put this one down.
