I got this album a few days ago - brilliant. Mastered by Bob Ludwig, mixed by Bob Clearmountain, it's just a damn good album all round. Strongest stuff Neil and Tim have put out since Crowded House days.

Five star recommendation

I heard an excerpt today on NPR. I've always appreciated their music since the Split Enz days. In fact, I was in a band that covered I Got You and Dirty Creature a little over 20 years ago.

Even though I kind of miss the edge that Split Enz provided as counterpoint to Tim and Neil's beautiful melodies, I still enjoy what they've done since then (especially when the brothers Finn work together). Woodface is my favorite post-Enz release.

Thanks for the recommendation nursers!

Best,

Geoff

Since I'm a huge fan of Neil Finn in general, think Woodface was the best Crowded House, and I recently caught the Finn Brothers on their last tour, I was really looking forward to this album.

And, although I like the songs (which is the most important thing), the sound kinda let me down. I ripped a track from Woodface into Cubase and compared it to a track off the new album, and the new album had the typical limited to death look, whereas Woodface had real dynamic range to it.

Nursers, since you picked up your copy in Oz (I'm guessing), it's possible that they didn't do the same mastering for around the world. BTW, mine's a Canadian copy.

Or, I need my ears cleaned out. Anyone care to confirm?

I like posting album recommendations after Phil posted one about Fountains of Wayne's last album, which I ended up buying.

I also heard one of the new songs on the radio and it was exellent as always. It's one of the very few newer recordings that I have an interest to go out and buy. Too bad more people aren't into them because they are awsome all the way around.

Its kinda funny, but when we talk about albums, I'm always thinking vinyl. I realize 'album' refers to a number of recordings issued together and the media is not the issue, but in my mind, I've always put the words 'record' and 'album' together, as record album, as a vinyl record.

I finally got this album. Every time I get a Neil/Crowded/Tim/Split/Finn album I think I've made a mistake. Same old thing... pretty melodies, suspended harmonies, mysterious lyrics about the human condition...

...and then I play it again, and again. Lyrics reveal themselves against those suspended harmonies. The meaning and power of a lyric drives right through my heart as Neil hits the high note in the chorus and his voice breaks, almost sounding like a vintage amp slightly breaking up.

Wow. I actually listened to this at a Tower Records listening station and passed on it because I thought it was going to be too boring, and I'm a fan. All of the Crowded House albums, Neil's solo stuff...

I got it because I'm going to see them play and wanted to at least know some of the new stuff. I'm glad I did.

They trick me every time. Boring? No way... Beautiful. Inspiring.

Cool... someone in the 3DW was mentioning the Finns the other day. I was a big Split Enz fan way back in the day.

I just popped it into my subscription service's playlist and it's up next.

Thanks for the tip!

The show I saw was a disappointment. Not because of anything they did, but the club conditions were pretty rough. No clear sight line to the stage, muffled sound. They might have been great. Who knows?

Not having a drummer didn't help...

But I got this Neil Finn and Friends DVD (title?) that is amazing. Tim shows for some tunes. The band is great.

..and yes, the bass player is just fab. Theblue1 mentioned the low end on the album. It's the player in this case. He comes from the school of McCartney but puts a bump at 60Hz. Really good. He's on the DVD too.

That song runs through my mind like Fall At You Feet used to...

Just saw them live again last night - in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House.

They were nothing short of brilliant.

And I bet you still haven't heard the album Phil ;\)
