HAHAHAHA...

Seriously, though, a lot of discussion has taken place about the sophomoric "Korn Rules" threads on other boards. Now, keeping in mind that those posters are about 15 for the most part, I wondered what I might have posted if there had been an internet when I was 15.

Likening other boards to "grade school", and this board to "grad school"...I wondered,

If there had been an internet when we all were kids, what topics might we have come up with???

Will Han Solo ever get out of that chocolate bar?

"Jam on It": Meaningless pop drivel or subversive political statement?

hands down Jimmie Page....acoustic and electric...if you're serious. However I don't see much difference in some of the posts here, just better diction, more mature thought processes most of the time. In that we post and they post is inclusion enough.....but oh well.

Jimmy page was amazing. A true monster!

Ritchie Blackmore was fabulous also though.

Anyone listen to Pat travers? That was pretty cool shit.

Definatley Mary-Anne! God Damn!

Master Zap, I'm curious whether you were ever exposed to this stuff.
Given your electronic tastes; I would like to know what the first types of music really affected you as a kid were. How did it affect you and what made you want to start making music. I saw you mentioned 'Yello' in another post. What else?
I ask, because for me it was the music of Led Zeppelin. It was the complete "fuck you" attitude, coupled with some really creative individuals who when the played together were explosive. I was around 6 or 7 years old when i discovered them and it really hit me hard.
I have never been able to relate to techno because it had none of this group tension and energy and no "Blues edge"(well i don't hear it anyway).

Each to his own, I'm just trying to understand another angle, maby it will help me expand my tastes.

Hey, I always hated Jazz until i was in college and learned that it was a great way to be self-indulgent and get respect for it. I also found the only stuff i liked had alot of blues flavour to it.
I came away from that much richer for knowing the likes of musicians like Miles Davis and John Scofield and and Robben Ford,Don Grolnick, Duke Ellington (some of my favs) and many many more of some of the really "GREAT" "MUSICIANS" who have graced us.

I was walking to our practice studio one day back in the early 70's and I had a piano tuning wrench in my hand. A patrol car was coming around the corner and the cop noticed the wrench, slammed on the brakes, put his lights on, got out of the car and yelled at me, "Hold it right there". By this time the other cop was around the cruiser and forcing me up against the car as the first cop grabbed the wrench out of my hand, looked at it and said, "What in the hell is this?" Upon which I proceeded to explain to him that it was a piano tuning wrench and I was on my way to tune my (Lawrence Acoustic/Electric) piano. He appologized, saying he thought it was a hash pipe and sent me on my way.

If that same scenario where to happen today he wouldn't even have stopped because he would probably think it was my respiratory inhaler.

Kraftwerk's "Autobahn" made me curious as hell.

Another thing that influenced me was the fact my brother actually built a synth back in the 70's.

Donna Summers "I feel love" (which, incidentally, works perfectly to this day, as is, no remixing needed).

Kraftwerk again totally BLEW ME AWAY with "We are the Robots", the totally uter techno-kraut machine song. Blew my socks off. I wanted to dance like a robot to it, long before anything "breakdance" was even invented. It was just soooo cool. Totally devoid of any stupid "emotion" crap, just mechanized body joy. Music for your Mind, Music for your Body.

Yello came later, as did Depeche Mode, Yazoo/Assembly/Erasure/(anything with Vince Clarke in it), the Swedish band "Adolphson+Falk".

And ABBA gave me the love for the pop hook and neat production twists.

I must have been a "nice boy" as a kid coz I *never ever* saw any value in *any* form of "fuck you" attitude. The most "dangerous" I've been was by listening to a lot of EBM in my teens, e.g. Front 242, Nitzer EBB.... but nowdays that music is way too "agressive" for my tastes. I think that is the most "shelved" of my old influences. I much rather pick up "We are the Robots" and play again than I would pick out a Nitzer EBB or Front 242 album and play today.

Also Depeche Mode went into some dark depressing development which left me cold, whereas Vince Clarke went the bright, bleepy, synthetic route, which I loved.

In general, I was *very* "anti Rock" in my youth, and almost anti-guitar!! I hated Rock, Punk, Hard Rock... anything that was angry and non-technologic was stupid and irritating to me. I hate guitarists. I hated bassists. I hated drummers.

Nowdays, my grownup self can enjoy and appreciate most pieces of a "band", the only leftover I rather *still* preffer the mechanized version of is the drummer. (Sorry Lee )

Maybe it's all in my ears. I hate the frequency range output by electric guitars... it actually hurts.... unless you do the modern "Scooped Mid" mixing.

Whats funny w. me vs. ABBA is that I'm a big fan of ABBA's producer, and he is a "big" (hmm ) fan of me.

Well okay, okay, I admit... he owns my debut CD + some more junk and he commented favorably on it thats it

The answer is me.

Yes, me.

I am better than both Jimmy Page and Richie Blackmore. Neither of them can write ads for TASCAM as well as I can.

Oh, you meant playing guitar???

Then the answer is...

ME! I am the MAN! Don't mess with Jeff, the king of six fingers and ten strings.

What?

The question I might have asked if a forum such as this
had suddenly became available during my childhood?

Hehe you gotta remember here in the woods of western PA
when I was a teen in the mid to late sixties, information
in general about guitars and the workings of music was
practically an unknown concept, let alone the reality of
the information highway we have today. So my very first
stupid question might have went as follows:

Well I figured out how to get something like a Jimi Hendrix
sound with my Teisco guitar and Fender ProReverb amp by
jumping a wire across the speaker contacts. It's a real
fuzzy sound but... how do I make it louder?

Second question might have been... my amp seems to get really hot when I use this cool sound. How come?

Hehe... it was a truly dark age type of times
