However it may be silly and odd but I want to know:
How I can Port a MIDI file to my Yamaha PSR-A3 keyboard?!
It has the sign of "General MIDI" and the In and Out Port on the back. By the way A3 is a member of PORTATONE family of Yamaha keyboard.
Thanks in advance.

I use a Yamaha PSR-170.

If the A3 is anything like the 170, while I have not tried it, I do feel that the full capability of the keyboard resides in it's only redeeming quality, whatsoever - that it may be used to record MIDI notes from the parts I play, onto my computer.

It does have a record function and it's own internal sequencer and I am confident that if one hooked up a sequencer to it's MIDI IN, one could then record a sequence onto it. I'm not quite sure about how it would handle timing discrepancies. I don't believe the recording of an outboard MIDI sequence would do that well when "copied" to the PSR but I could be quite wrong.

Theoretically, the answer to your question is a very qualified yes. The answers as to why one would want to do such a thing are, as you've observed, very silly indeed. ;\)

Behnoud,

Are you trying to simply play a MIDI file from an external source (such as a computer)? If so, read the "MIDI Functions" section of the manual. It describes how to control the PSR from a remote keyboard, but a computer could just as easily be doing the control.

Are you trying to receive an external MIDI file into memory in the PSR? If so, read the "Receiving Bulk Data" section on the manual. Remember, however, that the PSR-A3 has very limited memory capacity, and the memory it does have is volatile (loss of AC and battery power will erase memory). I'm pretty sure, by the way, that you cannot record to PortaTone cartridges.

If this process interests you, you should really look into using a computer-based sequencer rather than the PSR's limited recording abilities.

Larry.

I play eastern (Oriental) especially persian, gulf, arabic. so I need to port some Oriental style. My cartridge doesn't have new style I want.

Unfortunately you cannot accomplish what you're trying to do within the A3 itself. You could contact Yamaha (either directly, or through a Yamaha PSR dealer) and inquire whether cartridges are available with the style(s) you're looking for. I wouldn't expect so, as the A3 is 12+ years old, and they may not be using the same format for cartridges and/or song/style data.
