I just acquired a Fender Precision and the strings on it are unfamiliar to me. They are roundwounds and a bright chrome like color. The ball ends have chrome eyelets (no colored ones) There is no silk covering on either end. On the tuner end, the outer winding comes off in a slow, wide spaced spiral showing the core wire. Does anyone know the brand/model??? Help !

I know DR Sunbeams have no silk, but have a brass ball end.

The Warwick Red labels have no silk, chrome ball ends and a wide spaced spiral at the tuner end.

Do you have any pics?

Is the bass new Rocky? New Fenders come with stock strings, and I think they don't have silk windings. Just a thought.

The bass is not new, it is a 85 MIJ Jazz Special, I'm sure the strings have been changed many times. I just have not seen this type of string before. I don't like them, they are rough and I get a lot of finger noise. I getting ready to put on some Flats. I was just curious as the the manufacturer of these strings so that I don't accidentally buy any in the future.

Mine are the Half Rounds. The were rough and slowed down my fingering at first, but they seem to be getting smoother the more I play them, and through my Sansamp they sound great on the Cort.

Rocky, just chuck them out and worry no more. You sure about those flats though? Sunbeams would be good:)

They may indeed be Warwick Red Labels by the sound of it. Less than stellar tone, and rough feel.

They're Warwick's cheapest string, and not very good.

I haven't played their yellow label Nickel Plated round, but they get good reviews.

Their Black label strings and EMP strings are their top-of-the-line offering, and are very good.

After years playing DR strings I've switched to Warwick Black Labels and love them.

They aren't as smooth as DRs admittedly, but they have marvellous tone.

.....so - don't judge all Warwick strings by their Red Labels (if that's what yours are). They're not considered to be very good, and are very very cheap.

I carry 2 extra sets of D'Addarios, and neither of them have the chenille.
