Hoping to try it out at my gig tonight (although I haven't yet purchased the mic stand adapter so I'm not sure where I'll sit it just yet) . . .

EM reviewed all of them last month, and gave this one high marks, but also noted the update coming out next month that has more professional connections (if I recall correctly) and easier battery replacement (amongst other changes).
No big deal, but I do hope as a result of the impending upgrade, that you got a REALLY good price on this unit.
The Edirol is now near the top of my list of possibles for a portable recorder and playback alternative to iPods (I don't have an iPod but other bandmembers do).
FWIW, the Korg currently has a $200 rebate, but I haven't priced it out to see if this puts it on price-par with the Edirol.
The Edirol, Korg, and Tascam, are probably the three best-quality devices in this class (and which are affordable -- the Sony unit is insanely expensive).
The Tascam has some flaws from what I understand, being based on its music-minus-one playback devices for guitarists and vocalists (I think mostly the problem is in which formats are supported), but I think it's the only one supporting variable playback, which can of course help with learning licks (you can change speed without pitch shift, or pitch without speed change).
No question about it, the time has finally come where these portable recorders are not only affordable and well-featured but also capable of high-end audio results.
I look forward to hearing your in-use experience.
One concern I have about many of these units is the scant information on wall-powered possibilities (via adaptors) vs. strictly battery-powered or USB bus-powered.

Noah, I also look forward to your report.

I got some really good live recordings out of that mic over the years, but haven't used it in a year or so now. It was a good match for the Alesis MasterLink, and probably would also be for the Roland mini-recorder.

Mark:
I got the new version (the R-09HR, note the picture), not the original R-09. In fact, waiting on the new version is what caused my purchase delay.

I've been eyeing one of those AT stereo mics as well, so thanks for the recommendation. Does anyone know if there are any other battery-powered stereo condensers to consider? AT seems to have that market cornered (which I guess is fine if the mics get high marks).

Noah, I also look forward to your report.
This weekend ended up being shot for a test-run, but I intend to give it a good workout with my acoustic at home in the coming days. I'll use the internal mics and try to post some audio samples if I can find a good host for the files.

Hmmm, just noticed that the Rode NT4 is capable of being battery-powered with a 9V battery. It's pricier than the Audio-Technica, but I've read great things about the quality (and the price/value proposition) of Rode mics.

P.S. Did I just break the record for most consecutive posts by the same person in a single thread (also started by that same person)?

No....I think that would probably belong to me on the "Line For..." thread.

Our guitarist picked up the Zoom . We're quite impressed with the sound quality. Great little gadgets.
