Pardon the short notice.

If anyone is interested, let's hang in Richmond this Friday, Jun 20th to check out our very own SK (Steve Kessler) at the Infuzion Lounge:

Forumites within traveling distance who either want to carpool and/or show up, feel free to respond here.

I will be requesting GAS and Real Book tunes throughout the evening.

I'm not sure that SK will let anyone else touch the $12k Kawai digital grand.

A "Jump" request is probably out of the question unless the drummer knows it starts on the upbeat.

SK will be playing from 8:30 - 11:30 pm.

During the break, we might videotape a segment entitled "taking [insert here] seriously".

Dayum PD, You're on a ROLL. \:D

I'm just real happy that you didn't mention anything about SK being replaced by a pianola.

It will probably be "taking food seriously."

I'm sure most of you in the "tri-state area" are busy, but now that ProfD is coming out for the evening, it would be great if any of you could join us.

D, the digital grand isn't mine, so it's up for grabs.

If interested in this mini-hang, post back or send ProfD or me a PM. Or just show up! It's a cool place and good listening room.

And D, thanks for posting it.

ITGITC, I'm proud to announce I'll be replacing the pianola.

I know you're not exactly right around the corner, but it would be great to see you and BluesKeys.

I have a family event on one of my rare Fridays off this summer, but will be making my best efforts to show up a little bit later that evening for the hang. Maybe ProfD and I can go window shopping for GHVs. \:D

Eric, it's on Roseneath Rd. on the right, a couple blocks north of Broad St.

It takes up the whole block - free parking. Hope you can make it.

Cool! I lived on Roseneath (near Grove) for awhile back in the early '90s.

Let's hit the SUV dealership suffering from the slowest sales.

Taking traffic into consideration, if you start out around 10 am tomorrow morning, you would be right on time.

Between SK and yourself, Infuzion management would have to buy a new Kawai Saturday. \:D

Thank you for the invitation, SK. I'll check with BluesKeys. However, I feel pretty sure he's got a gig Friday night.

No worries - keep us posted. We certainly will be back to party with the MAKCFH contingent. It's always a great time.

A great time was had by all tonight (SK, PD, E + band). I really enjoyed chatting with the fellas and we connected on several important topics.

SK has the video cam with all the proof.

Time for bed. Poor PD is still driving home in his not new GHV. \:D

Regards,
Eric

A lot of fun - thanks to ProfD and Eric for hanging, supporting, and chatting. A mini-MAKCFH, you guys made my night.

Now I haven't checked the video yet. ProfD was the cameraman, so I get to be editor.

D, report in and let us know when you're back.

The mini-Hang was a blast.

As expected, SK delivered the goods on piano. The band kept up with him. \:\)

A few of the numbers the quartet played were the following:

Have You Met Miss Jones?
All the Things You Are
Alone Together
Eternal Triangle
Cantaloupe Island
Expletive Deleted (original)

The club/room has a very cool vibe. The Kawai digital grand is nice.

If the Legend Brewery ever falls through, we may have to consider Infuzion for the MAKCFH.

I'll definitely go back more sooner than later. In fact, brother Eric has an outdoor gig on July 18. Consider this advanced notice. \:\)

There should be some usable footage. Edit away SK.

Kewl, indeed. Please do share that video!

Meantime, I'm off to play my last gig tonight with my band. After that, it's to the woodshed for a while until I get the urge to join another group.

Peace, all.

Noah, I'm GLAD you made that decision.

Now for those who missed it and those who asked for proof:

A whole 5 min. clip from our 3 hour gig/hang.
I loaded it with unnecessary special effects for short attention spans - like mine. I played pretty cheesy on this - I even gave in and played "Cantaloupe Island" - a faux Herbie version. Not my usual, but the conversations with D and Eric made up for it.

So against my better judgement, here is:

SK, excellent editing job which in addition to making it more KB-centric also cleaned up my Corona-induced camera work too.

To those checking out the video, this only captures a very brief snapshot of the jazz piano clinic SK provides from one tune to the next.

Definitely worth checking him out either on one of his gigs and/or at the next MAKCFH.

Joe, thanks man!

ProfD, your camerawork was excellent. Too much of me though - I was trying to figure some way to edit me out, but kinda hard to do in a trio.

I'm glad there isn't. That made me want to quit playing enough as it is. More would only add to the pain

Excellent footage, SK! The music was sublime, in spite of my hootin' and hollerin' in the background. \:D Nice camera work, PD!

Yeah, not bad for one of those jazz guys.

Looks like you were having a lot of fun there.
Hey, none of that allowed.

The bass player sounds great Steve.

Thank you guys for the nice words about that little gig.

Dave, that's Matt Hall on bass. He is great - he's been the bass player for almost 4 years now in my regular trio. In his 30's- in the video, he looks like he's 19. \:\)

This wasn't my trio, which does more stretching stuff - just a regular Friday gig (mostly standards I've nearly forgotten) with a drummer/friend who booked us on it, and sometimes a horn player. Fun in its own way.

He even passes the flyaway butt test. My knees hurt just watching.

I did something today i've never done before - dropped a note to Keyboard editor Ernie Rideout. I think the world is ready for a feature story on SK. I figure since I'm one of the "fewer women posters" who's old enough to be his mother, he just might listen. Well, he should!

No need to thank me, Steve. It's all under control. \:D

Sue, that is an excellent gesture.

Hopefully, between the Reharm thread and digging SK's work here, the magazine editors will recognize him and the extremely talented jazz pianists hanging out here.
