I saw many pro users of GK like Tony Kanal of No Doubt, and others, have the 800RB as their main head in thei rigs.
The 700RB-II seems to be the natural replacement to the 800RB. But after reading some posts, some people wrote that the 700RB-II may need more headroom and then migrate to the 1001RB-II.
For years, and actually those pro bass players are using the 800RB, even at stadium stages. Note that the legendary 800RB have only 200W @8ohms !. I have miss something? The 700RB-II rated 320W@8ohms/480W@4ohms must be a massive killing volume compared to the 800RB !!

These 'pro users' utilize the venue's backline, something that not all musicians have the luxury of. The 700 and its more powerful older brother, the 1001, are modeled after the historic 800. People who like that vintage tone buy the 800. These 'vintage guys' also buy weird clothing and wicker furniture.

The GK700 RB-II is a crazy loud head for 480w.

As rizzo9247 said - maybe they prefer the tonality of the 1001, although I seem to remember the 700 has a switch to make it voiced like the older 800.

EDIT: Just checked - the "string bass" switch on the 1001RB-II and the 700RB-II lets you set the amp to be voiced like an 800

If I understand the dB thing, the difference in perceived loudness between 200 watts and 320 watts would be barely noticeable.

this is true, however the added headroom may well be sonically useful and noticeable.

Yep, that's why I use a 1001rbII.

I have a 700RBII and it is one very loud clean amp. It has been in steady use for 4 years now and still sounds great. I us an Ampeg 4x10 with mine aas the original GK BLX cabs I bought where crud. It would be a big stage that this bad boy would not suffice on.
