Once you actually play an F bass, I don't think you'll care what it looks like, you'll have to have it. Just ask Wally.

LOL! Owning one is out of the question unless someone is thinking of me on my birthday (Oct 1, fwiw). I just can't get over how interesting the finish is on this one, I'd love to see it live.

Playing an F Bass is a dangerous thing. Especially for your wallet! But damn are they great.

Reminds me of that chick from Josie & the Pussycats

And I mean that in a good way. It's psychedelic image is giving me a flashback.
I wonder- if you stare at it long enough, then look at a blank piece of paper, do you see it's opposite?

Looks really cool !!!
What's special about F-basses? Genuine question, as I've never seen one in my life All we get here is Fender, Squier, Ibanez, Yamaha ...

F Bassses are handmade by George Furlanetto and his staff of nine people in Hamilton, Ontario.
They do wonderful work and make beautiful, great-sounding basses that are very expensive. You are not going to see one of these basses in very many stores.
Browse the website and then wipe the drool off your computer keyboard. (after you get up off the floor when you see the prices)

I would gladly play and deal with the smell of a turd if it felt and sounded like the F Bass I came a couple years ago. It was glorious.
Did I mention I hate my MM Stingray lately?

This one is about 280,000 pennies, gently used. List price is over $5k according to NW-Bass.

A guy I run into at a local blues jam has been bringing a fretless F Bass 5 string with him. He's an alright player with only 3 years experience or so. But I haven't heard his push that bass to it's boundaries. Oh, to have 3 grand to spend willy-nilly on an uber-gorgeous fretless!

What "fret" does it finish at? It looks beyond 36! That's gettin' silly! Reminds of the Tune bass maniac fretless that had the extended fingerboard. I'd near drop dead if I walked into a shop and saw an F bass in Sydney.

First, I expect the black-and-white thing is made more dramatic by the photography. Still, it's an extreme-looking bass. They do show up (often in natural wood tone) from time to time.
FBass was the first I knew of that always made wooden PUP covers. I find their body style a bit too big for my taste - other than that they are first-rate, fine instruments with delicious neck profiles.

It's only 28. Only? Not sure that I would ever need them all.

That's what I expect. I'd love to see it in person to see if it's really that contrasty.

I've seen that bass in person. It is unique and (I think) pretty damn cool looking. I didn't dare play it. That could have been Very Bad(tm).

I, personally, that meaning me, I being the one typing, as it were, think that bass is totally f*****g hot looking. It is all of that. Plus a bag of chips. With salsa and a willing blonde.
However, I have personally played about a half dozen F basses in visits to Jimmy's Guitar and Bass Boutique in NYC (as well as other places), and have found a few with what I would call egregious neck/body join gaps. 2 or 3 out of 6 or so just wrankles my cookies. A business card sized gap is bad enough IMO, but a credit card sized gap is just plain wrong at that price point.
I am pretty sure it speaks to a lack of CNC work, but still... That said, that is a sexy bass.
Just sayin...
Peace,
wraub

I don't hate it. I just don't love it like I feel I should. I find it a little too heavy and a little too limited in it's sound capabilities. I just think a P-bass would be a better fit as my rock bass. Come to think of it, I don't dig rock all that much. Maybe it's the gig I'm on when I use the MM that disenchants me. I sub for a guy that tours with Jani Lane when he's on the road. That gig is pretty raucous for my tastes and not my normal thing. I don't think I play it all that well and make bone headed mental mistakes because I'm out of my comfort zone. It could be that or it could be that bass. I'm still soul searching and typically always searching for the perfect situation. Seemingly, neither that gig or the bass is ideal for me.

They are a tad bit heavy and unless you have HH configuration hand position can be tricky not really having a thumbrest. But, in my opinion it is very versitile tone wise and a good all around bass.

...and a little too limited in it's sound capabilities.
Which is the reason I held onto my Stingray 5 during my bass house cleaning last year. There isn't anything else that sounds like a MM Stingray/Sterling. It is kind of like a P-bass on steroids. However if you are looking for lots of huge tonal options a Stingray/Sterling is not a good bass.
